Oil cooler up front or let it be

My wrench is telling me I might want to move my oil cooler up front to the front valance. I already have the valance with the cooler window in it, came with car. My question is do I really need to move the cooler? I know it will keep the oil cooler but how much cooler do I really need? I have neverr even been mid way on my oil temp gauge. Worth while or is he just trying to create a job?

I bought one of the little airscoops for the front bumper that Wayne sells--I have a 28-tube cooler in my 3.4-liter modified '83SC--and during a recent DE at Lime Rock that my daughter drove, on a moderately warm April day, the oil-temp gauge barely made it to the middle of the dial, which as I remember is 250 degrees. I suspect the airflow directly to the cooler had something to do with that. I would try one of those before going to a more major mod.

Chis, to determine if you have a problem you need to find out what the middle of the dial means in terms of actual temperature. Some of the guages without numbers actually have them, they're just hidden.

They are very small and way to the left, you have to look in at an angle so see them and you may need a flashlight. They are probably in degrees C.

250 f is generally considered excessively hot. According to B. Anderson, "240 f is hot, 250 f is too damn hot".
