Seats Discussion (Yes, Again...)

I am looking at seat upgrade (maybe) in my 1982 911SC. I currently have the standard seats and find the lateral support a bit lacking. Though being 6'3" and 235lb, I am sensitive to seat height and width. Here is what I am looking at:

Standard Seats: Seat height is fine, though lateral support is poor.

Porsche Sport Seats: Seat height is about 1" or so too high, lateral support is better (just a smidge too tight) and egress/ingress over the side bolster get's old on a daily basis.

Recaro LX-B/C: Like the looks but hard to find. Also, not sure how this compares to what I have sat in already (see above).

GTS Monte Carlo: Like the looks and choice of materials. Not sure how this compares to what I have sat in already (see above).

Regards,

Chuck

I'm a bit smaller than you (6'1 and 210lbs), but love my vintage Recaro SRDs. They hug nicely with just enough "wiggle room" to make them comfortable for my 1hr long commute to work. I've heard the new Sport Seat version is a little wider at the base. You may want to check out a pair of those.

I am a bit smaller than both of you guys (6'1 180LBS) and I have both the sport seats (my 944) and the regular seats (911SC and 924S) this is what I will say on them.

The 944 is my DD right now and I have to deal with the sport seats ever day. I have not found them to be much of an issue. They can get a bit uncomfortable on long drives but its not that bad and nothing I cant put up with. They hold you way better in the turns and I find I shift around far less in them. The electronic tilt adjust on them is nice as well.

The regular seats I find a bit more comfortable on long drives. How ever after a few hours we all need to get out and stretch any way so neither seat is really an issue when it comes to that. I find the regular seats to be easier to get in and out of but I slide around a lot more in them in the turns. Many of the older people that have been in my car or other Porsches with the sport seats really do not like how hard it is to get in and out. That being said I know plenty of people who can barely get in and out of the regular seats.

If you are looking to do aggressive driving, AX, or lots of track days I say go for the sport seats. For DD I would go for the regular seats for ease of getting in and out, simplicity and comfort. I have never used the other seats you mentioned so I cant comment on them.

Regards
Dave

I've had sport seats in all of my 911s. Egress is not an issue, since I run the seat back on the tracks every time I get out. I've done that for decades and it's not hard to get used to. Saves a lot of wear and tear on the seats, too. I've never had to repair the bolster on any of them. The '74-80 sports seats seem to allow me to sit a little lower than the '81-84 version, or the 85-on version.

The Recaros have a little more room to wiggle around in, although they are nicely supportive. There's a guy here on Pelican that restores old Recaro seats, so they may not be too hard to find.

I'd recommend picking between those two.

I too have SRDs, they dropped my 4 inches. I also redid them in leather.

From reading past posts, you modified the rails. How much lower without modifying your rails?
