Post Jack Olsen....... Oil cooler question

Jack, I remember you going through h*ll trying to reslove your oil temp situation. What did you end up doing as a final? My temps are too hot for my taste, and the 964 cooler wont fit into my fender area. Im getting ready to add a 32 row unit behind the front spoiler. Let me know.

If you don't mind the look of the front-mounted cooler, then it is indisputably the best way to go. Get as much cooler as you can up there, and maybe cut a little room for a puller fan for stalled traffic.

I prefer the look of the uninterrupted S spoiler, and I've paid for that preference. I've ended up with two coolers plumbed in series, with vents cut in each side of the spoiler (larger than the RSR bumper brake vent holes) and abs plastic and aluminum ducting to funnel the air through (and not around) the coolers. I've got a fan on one of the coolers as well. For daytime use at the track, I have the back section of the headlight buckets cut out and an old set of headlight rings with more screen to act as additional air collectors. I also have the battery boxes removed on both sides, to increase air flow and so that even the horn grills can function as scoops.

When you don't have the cooler sitting out there front and center, it's about airflow, airflow, and airflow.

Does it work? Can't say, yet. I've been getting an AC system put in, as well as alterations to the seats, a new dash, gauges to show transmission temp and battery levels, as well as a half dozen other little things, and the car's first official outting with the new cooling setup will be two days of August racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It will almost certainly be very hot, so my new scheme should be put to a pretty extreme test.

Bill Verburg's 3.6 did it the more sensible way. He's got the big front cooler. It works. Period.

In ten days, I'll know if my plan is a winner or a loser. I'll let everybody here know how it goes.

OK Thanks, I'm going with a center cooler like Bill's in series with the fender mount, but am mounting it flat behind the spoiler where my Evap used to be. Im going to make a "scoop" to bring airflow up to it.-i have the factory 930 spoiler and am not going to cut it!-
