California Kia Design Center are "crazy 911 fans"

I just came across this today. Thought if might be of interest:

"Well, I can tell you that within our design team in California, we have now, I think six of us have G-body Porsche 911s, '74 to '89. We're crazy 911 fans. And why are we crazy 911 fans? It's that purity, that direct feel, that steering. I've owned a first-generation Mazda Miata. What a great car, it's so much fun, especially on a small track."

I think KIA has really made great strides in the area of design. As far as a brand, I'd still steer clear.

Good article. Nice to know some car designers still "get it". I hope the Kia GT4 (and more like it) make it into production, I'm sick of techno luxury barges.

This is a cool car.. I hope the engineers and the paymasters and the bean counters and the marketers at KIA all have 911's too, then maybe something like this could become a real thing. I cringed when I read that they did not design this with any accounting for pedestrian safety regs. I know very little about these things, but I blame them for the really high hoodlines and extended noses that I feel like I see on every new car now. So I bet this would really have to change a lot if they wanted to produce it.. I think the part I like the most is the front fenders coming up above the level of the hood... I wonder if that could be preserved given the regulations. Its moot for me to think about anyway.. if I had 30k to spend for a sports car.. well, I would be looking for another 911...!

Good post and interesting.....seems to be a unique train of thought in these days of max isolation and nannyism.
