Differences between 1970T and S
I just purchased a classic barn find 1970 911T, I am aware of the differences between the two models engine spec's, but if anyone can enlighten my as to the other differences that would be much appreciated.

What followsd is a partial list of the differences.
Engine T =Twin Zenith 40 TIN carburetors at 125 DIN HP, Compression ratio = 8.6:1 E = Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection at 155 DIN HP, Compression ratio = 9.1:1 S = Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection at 180 DIN HP, Compression ratio = 9.8:1 S has the highest reline (7,200) while T and E are lower Transmission T = 4 Speed standard, Sportomatic = optional E = 5 Speed standard, Sportomatic = optional S = 5 Speed, Sportomatic = not optional Suspension: E came with (crap) Borg self leveling hydropneumatic front struts, with no front sway bar, as on T and S. Most E’s will have been retrofitted to T/S MacPherson struts, etc. S model has a rear antisway bar which was not on the T and E. Body: The S came with an aluminum engine lid and aft-center (license) bumper section. T and E models used steel for these components. Calipers: S came with aluminum front calipers, T did not. Instrumentation: S came with the full compliment of instruments. The T, and I believe the E, came with fewer gauges. Full compliment instrumentation was an option on the T and E. Standard Wheels: T = 5 ½ x 15 Magnesium E = 5 ½ x 14 Fuchs S = 6 x 15 Fuchs Al |

Al provides a pretty good list there, although to me the real answer is that it all depends on how it was originally optioned. Nearly anything the S had was optional for a T. The 911T registry has a pdf of a 1970 option book that shows a lot of this, indicating where certain options are standard for the S.
1970 911T Options Even the front anti-roll bar is optional on the T (not standard as Al indicates). In addition to the brake calipers that Al mentions, about the only thing that I can see that would not be available as an option on the T is the S front bumper. I didn't realize that the aluminum decklid was standard on the S, but if so that's another. There may be a few other things, but that's all I can think of. Mike

Gentlemen:
Thanks Mike for the "official " 911T options reference. There is quite a bit of discrepancy in the literature regarding optional equipment on the early cars. I thought of another item. I'm fairly certain that the T did not come with the (front passenger side fender area located) engine oil cooler that was standard on the S. Its not shown as an option for the T. I don't know about the E. Al |

inside the engine.....crank, pistons, cams........S engines were a different animal as were the Alfa Veloces of the day. MFI or Webers don't make the beast by themselves. The "S" package of instrumentation wheels etc. make the lesser models look good. Buyer beware, new one guy who used to put the camper special badges on pickups and flip them and then the poor new owner had to beef up the springs only to overheat major components because they didn't have the prerequisite cooling accessories. By the way the S had a great oil cooler in the right front fender, too.
