Tensioner noise

Maybe someone can help me, I drove my 84 carrera 250 miles stopped for fuel and noticed what I thought was chain clatter drivers side, oil is 15/50 castrol and fresh,it was not real loud but enough to concern me. I was in the middle of nowhere so I continued on to Las Vegas and not running hard or hot. Arrived Vegas 300 miles later, still not hot same noise. Next morning started no noise, fuel stop noise back, continued home running 75-80 mph, home same noise. Next morning no noise. Could it be carbon in tensioner as I thought it would be noisy at the start. Used 1 1/2 qts 1200 miles. Thinking changing oil to Mobile one to maybe see if change as I ran some B&G 44K previously and thought it might have loosened some crap and some how semi plugged oil relief hole in tensioner. Car has 84K and no leaks always oil and maintained. Any advice out there, or whatever before major work. Thanks a bunch
