Big Wide Wheels

To bring yourself up to speed on my saga, check out http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67231

I did some test-fitting today. Figuring I had a choice between 270/40-17 and 315/35-17 for the rears, I set out to try to find used tires to test with. I found 275/40's at a local tire shop - close enough. I bought one crappy used tire, and had him dismount one of the Kumho's from my track wheels and mount it on the 9" Speedline.

I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

The fronts fit fine (remember, I have turbo brakes), no spacers required. I get a slight rub on the oil cooler shield in reverse @ full left lock, but I can move it forward slightly. This is a 245/45-16

The rears were the big surprise. They fit, *with* the 3" spacers! That is not a misprint. Now, with a 315, I'll have 20mm more on each side of the tire to deal with, so I won't be able to run those with a 3" spacer, but a 2 1/2 or so should do nicely.

I have to admit, they look great on there. Now I've got to figure out some trick to counter them before we meet up at Thunderhill again.

(Actually, you should stop by at Thunderhill on Thursday the 16th, when the Open Track Challenge passes through town. You can watch both me and Tyson Schmidt trying to break your 2:15.)

Well, you already had me in straight-line acceleration, and now that you've got headers and a sewer-pipe intake, you've leveled the playing field there. Plus you're getting another 1000 miles or so of seat time. All I've done is taken another 25lbs or so off the car this weekend with the RSR bumper.

What time of the day does this happen? Remember, I'm a contract wage-slave, so taking a day off to go to the track comes out of my bottom line.
