Does anyone have a rrattle can paint that...

...is close to Guards Red? Not the expensive color match stuff but off the shelf stuff like rustoleum or krylon or whatever.

Not trying to touch up body panels but rather exposed areas on floorboards or trunk sections.

TIA

Instead of using a rattle can.......have you thought about getting their paint in brush on?

Their quarts can be color matched

Went to my local hardware store and he color matched Guards Red for me.

Looks fine under the fenders and trunk

There's a local auto paint supplier here that will put whatever color you want in a rattle can for cheap.

I think for like $10 or so..

Try this company as I was able to find the paint code for my funky color and they put it in a can. Super fast as well.

Jim -

Please post back if you find something close. I need to paint my fiberglass bumpers that have been gel-coat white since I installed them 3 years ago. . . been quoted $500 by a paint shop which I don't doubt is a reasonable # considering they are fiberglass and will need some fill/sanding prep before painting. Problem is, I have a long term plan to paint my whole car at some point and I don't want to invest $500 when I may do a color change in a few years - maybe I'm just cheap. . .

I've used in the past and been looking at Paintscratch.com where I could get maybe 3 rattle cans of guards red (same as the color you are looking for?) for about $25 ea.? So for under $100, I could at least have my entire car one color. It'd be a 20-foot-type job, but then again, my whole car is a 20-footer. . .

If you find a rustoleum or krylon color that's close, I'd love to hear about it as it would be undoubtedly cheaper than $25/can.

Tom

If you have an air compressor, you can get a spray gun from Harbor Freight, and paint from your local pro paint supply shop, and paint the bumpers yourself for not much more than $100.

and, you'd have the spray gun to use for future use, and you'd learn how to do it, too. Valuable to have for a car nut.

In regards to the bumper respray

Get 1/2 pint real paint from a jobber " remember you need a
White base , be it primer or a base coat you still have to start with white
Or it will not match, Real paint or junk paint you still have to go through
The same prep and procedure.

Might as well do it right
2 wet coats of white sealer
2 wet coats of wet red base
2 wet coats of clear
12 beer while waiting for flash time

Bammmo refinished bumper

Here is a list
8 ounce glasurit 55 indishrot aka guards red or your color tag in the trunk you verify
Quart basf ur55 reducer
Quart glasurit 923-550 clear
Quart glasurit 929-94 hardener for the clear
8 ounce can transtar 7357 hardener for primer
Pint Eurostar 7361 white primer/ sealer
1 gallon junky cleanup lacquer thinner
1 tack cloth
Small bottle of degreaser / prep solvent
1 plastic mixing ratio cup
1 junkola harbor freight gravity gun " comes with 2 tips you need both
1 disposable respirator from harbor freight
1 air compressor
2 air hose and connectors
1 dryer for painting with clean air

But if spay can is what you want "
Go to Automotivetouchup.com Touch Up Paint, Aerosol Spray Paint and Touchup Paint Accessories | AutomotiveTouchup | 888-710-5192
And order 2 spray cans of basecoat
Porsche LM3A indischrot red

Okay so now it's painted time for the final touches
6 sheets 1200 paper
4 sheets 1500 paper
1 bottle 3m 06085 compound with 05737 foam pad
1 bottle 3m 06085 2 nd stage compound with 05738 foam pad
1 bottle 3m 06068 finishing compound with 05733 foam pad
1 bottle 3m 39007 hand glaze
And last but not least the infamous 3m 05518
$4.00 rubber squeegee.

Don't forget to ask for paint sticks after you pay ".

Now doesn't it seem alot easier to just remove The bumper drop
It off and pick it up 2 or 3 days later ? To buy the polishing material alone
Will cost $300.00

This is not an intended bang of any type " but people just
Don't understand what goes into a quality finish. This stuff costs
Money..... It is almost never worth while to DIY unless you have
The material on hand and know what you are doing,,,,

As far as the first post goes " go to home depot with your gas tank cover
And ask them to mix some rusto or epoxy for you. I would personally brush
It on.

I agree ... some thing and sometimes its cheaper in the long run and better to let a pro do it .. check around and talk to the local paint shops .. you may find someone that is willing to give you a break on the price if you don't pressure them on finishing right away ... stay away from the chain shops and hit the smaller guys ...

Its worked for me on paint and other things in the past ....

I am in no way a check book mechanic .. but I know what I can do and what I need others to do .... Sometimes its a needed talent, sometimes is a tool and every once in a while its a cost thing .. some things are cheaper to have done right the first time .

Long time ago I used a VW red from the local auto-parts store and it was close enough to to my 944 lower rocker panels.

...and if you think you can get that kind of paint work at any shop; think again. Unless it is a REPUTABLE high end auto paint establishment, expect 1/2 assed prep, masking lines, base, paint, clear & delivery. And maybe not in that order...

The problem is if your car is more than 5 years old NOTHING matches off the shelf- nothing. The same can of Paintscratch.com Guards Red lacquer is just a touch too orange on my 88 and just a touch too brown on my repsrayed 82.

To repaint the fender on the 88 I had my guy match the paint with the camera- all paint suppliers can do this- then we hand tweaked it and sprayed out a bunch of samples- and finally got it dead-on.

I think if you are doing anything other than filling in nicks and chips- and larger surface cannot be blended with aerosol- you gotta have a pro do it.

Most older 911s have had spot repairs, so the car may be four or five different colors.

orchard supply's house brand..... a subsidiary of sears.... i can look over the can n see if there's further ID... have done a clear coat on the front a couple times but it just takes a beating. i pretty much end up redoing the front bumper every off season with more time than money. there are usually fiberglass repairs required

I got a pint of PPG OMNI MTK Paint from my local Automotive Paint Store. I brush or use my air brush to touch up bits of paint here and there. Works great. Give them ypou coplor code and you are good to go.

If you want to spray it, just get a Preval unit (What Is The Preval Sprayer? | Preval) for those small jobs.

If you are really afraid of gearing up for real spray equipment you can get Testors Guards Red spray cans at a model/hobby shop that will amaze you. The acrylic enamel is not very strong though.

Wow, talk about a thread jack! I would go with what avdcav wrote, since these are the floor boards, use a brush.

wow.... 19 posts and only three answers to the original question.
+1 on the 'apple red' by rustoleum - I've done bumpers, rockers, valances, for 'show and shines' and no one has noticed the difference.
note - it's a lacquer, so care must be taken as to what you spray over / under it.
