Were MB Quart Speakers dealer option?
Hi I just acquired a 1989 930 with MB Quart speaker system and they look original to the car. Was the MB Quart sound system a standard option offered by dealers in the 80's?
Thank you. Jay |

No. I'd assume they were added at some point after the initial purchase.

No. They were a popular aftermarket upgrade back in the day.

I like to keep my cars as "original" as possible so I'm in a dilemma whether I should keep them or install the "stock" speakers. The MB Quart speakers look stock though except for the logo.
Would appreciate your inputs. Thanks. |

The original speakers were really poor quality. Keep what you have. You can always change them later, if your desire for originality overwhelms your desire to hear music. I understand the desire to keep a car as Porsche built it but you have to consider the fact that you need to enjoy the car as well.

JR,
Very true. Plus the MB's don't look too far off from the originals and were very well installed. I'm inclined to keeping the MBs for now. Thanks. |

Originals were probably all Blaupunkt.

Agree, not sure but probably blaupunkt. Blaupunkt makes some very good speakers and you can probably find some nice ones that look the same as the stock but are a higher grade speaker. I have a pair of components in my DD that are top of the line and crystal clear through the whole range.

It took only 49 years!

I also have the MB Quarts in my 87 coupe, but ever since I put in the M&K GT3 exhaust, I only listen to the sound of the engine!

I guess I'll just have to wait and see. With the top down (i failed to mention earlier), the music from the speakers will most likely be insignificant..

hmmm, I have those in my car. I'm happy with them. I just did 300 miles with the top down averaging 80 mph with my M&K exhaust and they performed well.

Why would you put Pep Boys/ Kraco quality speakers back in your 1980s car?
