I have one on my car. It is acceptable looking but is a temporary fix until I buy a good one.
My windshield was out when I got the car and it was included in the sale, so it was a quick fix and fairly easy to install. Instructions include pulling the glass and rubber!
If you are going to go to the trouble to pull the windscreen to install it, might as well fix your dash if possible.
Some pictures of it installed in my '78 are in my thread at post #7 here:
Finally, back in the game!
I actually had one installed in the '73 as well but I don't have a picture handy.

My leather dash was very badly warped where the leather had pulled away from the fresh air and A/C vents. However I had to cut a way massive amounts of leather and under lament to get the dash cap to lay down properly. Once installed it looked very good. I've since replaced the leather dash with a recovered donor dash.

I might add that when installing you don't want to over glue the dash cap down. Just a dimes worth of silicone at various contact points is all you need. Also you can paint the dash with SEM paint that comes in a shaker can. I used paper/cardboard tubes that I wedged between the nose of the dash pad and the seat backs. I laid some shot bags on top while the silicone was curing.

I put a dash cap on my '87 that I just recently sold. Before I installed the cap, I wrapped it with Alcantara......
