Different H4's?

I have people seen paying for used H4 headlights at a price that is sometimes higher, or close to what they are new. Are there different types of H4 lights that are worth more?

Bosch "style" H4's are different than Hella H4's. The Hella's have a flat front and fit into trim rings that are called Sugar Scoops. Bosch H4s have a round front lense that is the same shape as H1s and H5s. The Bosch H4s have a secondary low wattage bulb that is called a City lite that illuminates like a daylight driving light, this bulb is 4 watts.

Bosch H4's - Expensive: with City Lights On

Hella H4's - Much Less Expensive:

Thanks for the replies.

I am familiar with the sugar scoops. It is the " Euro style" H4's that I see selling for a similar amount to new headlights.

Are there two different Euro H4's? Is one German, the other Czech?

The ones made in Czech are still Bosch, they are just manufactured there and no longer say Bosch on the lense - just on the box.

I see them new on Ebay for around $335, I see people selling them used for here for $350.

The new H4's dont say Bosch, but otherwise they are the same?

Here's my car with the Czech made Bosch H4's. I purchased them on EBay about 3 months ago. The came in original Bosch packaging and were postmarked from the Bosch warehouse in Los Angeles. They say Bosch on the inside but not on the lense as the older ones do. As far as quality, I can't imagine the quality being any better.

One piece of advice; Order new headlight trimring gaskets from Pelican (about $5 ea) as the old gaskets get squeezed and the new gaskets help the lights to sit in place very firmly.

The German made H4's are of better quality than the Czech made ones, I have both to compare.

Hard to see how. My Czech pair are flawless. And since there are no more new German ones....

All I can comment on is the comparison between my two. The adjusting screws are attached tighter between the trim ring, rubber washer, metal cup and crimp washer on the German H4. Where the adjusting screw connects to the "clip" on the lens the clip is staked better tighter on German H4. The city light on the Czech H4 is looser and the ground "spring " isn't shaped right, this may be why it seams looser. That's what jumped out to me there may be other Small issues.
