79sc fire damage- advise

Hi guys, picked up a fire damaged euro 79sc as a parts car but having a good look at it I think it's rebuildable. So advise needed, the fire was an oil fire, approx 15 minutes and put out by the fire service with water . What should I look for as far as damage when I strip the engine. And as it went into the oil system should I consider the oil tank a through away as also the thermo, oil lines and cooler
Pics once the system is back up

I'll expand a bit, all the wiring in the rear is toast , as is the cis etc, so the engine is nothing but a short block. When these fires happen what issues are passed on to the block, internals etc... anyone rebuilt a fire damaged car and engine

My approach would be at minimum a complete tear down and re-assembly. Measuring all components for "wear and square".
You really won't know until you tear it down completely and split the case. Assume anything made of nylon or rubber etc. needs replacing. Measure everything for tolerance. Go from there.
Sounds like an interesting project.

look up my user name rgmrgm i bought a fire damaged 82sc not as bad as yours . i removed the engine and trans and stripped everything off the long block. no aluminum was melted and the spark plug wires were intact about 2 in from the valve covers. made sure the intake ports were clear and turned it over by hand. it made compression i cleaned it off with wire brushes. put another cis, ignition system, fan and alternator and replaced all the rubber hoses that were fried installed the engine in another car and it runs great. because heat rises stuff under the fire can escape damage.

Hay thanks for the info, what you see if far better than it looks, the fact is the car had a fibreglass lid, so the fire got hole on that until it collapsed on the engine , then the shroud started and took the fan, but as you can see even the blower hose didn't burn.

Seeing as there were far less RHD cars made restoring it may not be a bad idea, I dont know the prices on them but im sure a decent RHD is worth some thing. Every thing looks to be more or less intact in regards to the body I say rebuild it.

Regards
Dave

Cis off today , clean up of the fire damage parts and the body is sound , the engine is good but not great with melting damage in the fan mount base. Water in the intakes from the fire service using water , so engine out , full strip and we will see were to from the there.
