Where can I get a flywheel bolt removal tool?
Yes, I know Pelican sells them, but I really don't want to buy this tool, for a once-every-80k-100k-mile clutch R&R. Does anyone out there have a 12pt., 12mm flywheel bolt removal socket they would sell to me cheap, rent to me or lend me? I plan to do this job in early June and will probably have no use for it thereafter. Thanks.

Beleive it or not you can get one at Pep Boys or Auto Zone for about $10. I also got a Porsche Clutch alighnment tool there for $3.95. 'Course that was for my '77.

Alan's giving you good advice. Bought mine at Sears. The tool is nothing special.

That's odd - I called Sears and spent a lot of time on the phone with a lady who said she just could not find it. She made several calls while I was on hold, we went through several photos on their website and still no dice. I will check Pep Boys next. Thanks.

Pep BoyZ should have it. They sell all sorts of Lisle brand tools. Pretty decent tools really.

Richard,
I too live in Alexandria and had a VERY hard time finding these tools. The Auto Zone on Mt Vernon Ave has them. I think they were less than $10 for 4 sizes. Also guaranteed for life. Bonus. If they are out call me and I will let you borrow them. BTW those bolts should be on quite tight. You may need an impact wrench to break them loose. I can probably help you out with that as well. 703-778-1606 Jamie

I've got the impact wrench, and the clutch alignment tool for my car. If your pilot bearing diameter is the same, we are all set.

The clutch alignment tool/clutch disc for the 915 has a different number of splines than the G50 tool. I had to buy the 911 Turbo tool. I think the one you need from Pelican (if you were to choose that route) is the one in the online catatlog for the 911 Turbo and the 944.
Or you could buy the generic/universal alignment tool from the local parts store. All you need is some sort of dowel to make sure the disc is concentric with the release bearing opening in order for the trans. input shaft to easily go into the clutch disc.

Richard,
I'm in Arlington and have a 12 pt 12 mm tool that you can borrow. I seem to remember that it's a Lisle. Doesn't seem strong enough for an impact wrench though. Let me know, Chris. |

Hey Richard:
It looks as if we found some new playmates. I wonder how many Pelicanheads can fit under a 911 ![]() What do you guys think . . . Chris . . . Jamie I think I smell an engine drop BBQ.

Greetings N. VA Pelicaners! Count me in too. Richard, I have a 12mm 12pt impact socket when you need it. I haven't got to the flywheel side of my engine yet. Still at removing rods and then head studs. The heads and pistons are at EBS.
If anyone local needs the cam holder tool, stud extracter or the 46mm crowsfoot, let me know.
