Lowering my 80SC

How difficult is this to do for a newbie? I asked my mechanic about it and he said it takes 5 to 6 hours for the rear and the front is easy to do. Is this true? I just got new tires/wheels and want to lower it for appearance purposes now until I upgrade the rest of my suspension. What will it cost for my mechanic to do it? Any estimates? Thanks

Jon:

The amount of time is correct if it includes a corner balance as well as the lowering.

Lowering the car is not impossible for a rookie, as I did it for the first time last winter. The problem that you will most likely find is that all of the various suspension bushing will need replacing. So a relatively straight forward job turns into a major one, because of the "while I'm in there" syndrome.

Look at the tech articles in the 911 section of the home page. Also if you search for my screen name, and look at the posts on adjusting rear suspension, you will find the step by step process I used to adjust the rear ride height, which differs somewhat than the tech article, but worked perfectly for me.

This is well covered in Wayne's book as well in other threads in this forum.

Yes, the front is easy to do (adjusting screws) but the rear is much more involved - depending on how much lowering is needed. You will also need an alignment after you lower.

Hi JonT.

I wrote a little tech article with some pics when I lowered my 80SC. This is just for the rear, front was a slam dunk.

The doc is at http://members.rennlist.com/bb79sc/

Yes, I sold the '79 and bought the '80

cheers
