weatherstripping question
I had a new top put on my 88 930cab. I also had two pairs of weatherstripping replaced. They replaced the two outside pieces that run horizontal above the window and the two vertical pieces that run at the back of the window where it seals against the top.
I noticed I now have an 1/8 inch gap on the drivers side where the small triangle window seals against the windshield frame. It's as if the window moved back by a quarter inch. I'm at a loss as to how that could happen as that piece of weatherstripping was never touched. Anyone have any ideas how replacing the top and back pieces could open a gap at the front and how to fix it. |

Not exactly sure I am picturing this correctly. Are you saying the front edge of the metal triangle parallel to the window frame is 1/8th inch pushed towards the back of the car not allowing it to seal?
The triangle window flexes in and out way easier than front to back. You can get 1/4 inch movement side to side. Assuming nothing was touched regarding windshield frame seal or triangle window mounting, I am thinking the door window top seals are adjusted too far outboard and the pressure of the seal on the door window top pushes the entire door window and triangle window outward causing the gap. How does the triangle fit when the window is inside the door? That may help confirm. If this is the case, the seals need to be adjusted inward. On the earlier versions of the cab the door window top seals were adjustable through screw access holes in the seal itself. On your version the PET parts diagram it shows two seals per side mounted in a base with channels. I do not know how to remove the rubber to get the the adjustment screw slots but that may be the ticket. Or there may be a way to access the screws that I am not aware of without removing rubber. Someone with a newer cab will know. I have an 81 Targa with the adjustment screws through the rubber so I am only talking from what I see in the picture below. Here is your style: ![]() Here is the older style FWIW:

Thanks, that helps a lot and you under stand the problem perfectly. I had no idea the little triangle windows could tilt in and out like that.
I did close the door with the window down and still got the gap. However, if like you said, the seals are two far out the window might be bent out now so that it now doesn't matter that the door is being closed with the window down. So it sounds like you are saying I should first try to push the triangle window a little into the center of the car (and forward if possible) and that if it solves the problem I could also adjust the seals inward? |

No on pushing/bending back the window. I doubt the triangle window or door window have been torqued out of place. I bet the triangle can flex side to side in the non-coupes a half inch and return ok if you reef. The coupe window cannot flex because of the big frame we don't have.
Lift you top and shut the door and see if the gap goes away. I betcha the seal is doing a number on the top of the triangle. Also, the fact the driver's side is the only side "bad" points to the seal as well. |
