EPS Alternator Fan - Quality Concerns

Anyone else experience quality issues from EPS? I figured for $500, I'd get a spotless fan that I'd be proud to showcase as the centerpiece of my newly converted EFI engine. However, once it showed up, it looked like a sloppy job. The casting wasn't as perfect as I would like and the clear coat they applied looked like my 14 year old did it. Too much in spots, thin to no coverage in others. Pretty surprised as I did see most others having a good experience. Might be me being too picky also, but it just seems like if you order something brand new, it should look like it and not a refurbished DIY job. Agree/disagree?

I take it you have spoken to the company to get their side. It’s always fair to give them a chance to respond appropriately

No, I've not yet contacted them. I ordered it via our sponsor here, of course, and just wanted some feedback to see if anyone had a similar experience. If it's a common issue, then I would try to find an alternate vendor.

I will be sending it back and will see if they can ship out one of better quality.

I tried several and sent them all back. The quality and the price didn't match my expectations.
I tend to not complain to a company. I just don't use them again.

To be fair, looks similar to the pic in the PP listing. In fact, it literally shows spotting.

The genuine fan looks no better for an additional $200, not a lot really the difference being less than expected typically.

Both probably does the job fine. Worry more about whether the fan can sustain high rpms well. If not, that would be a good reason to return the product.

Casting imperfections on the surface are par for the course. Not my cup of tea but you could consider coating the fan, not sure how much that runs these days ... someone here should be able to tell you, probably hundred or two or so.

OEM is about $500 from a dealer with a decent discount - OEM rivets look nicer in the pics above.

Someone is making CNC machined fan housing. Here’s to hoping they start m,asking fans. Or someone starts 3D printing them.

I have one and had it ceramic coated. It’s held up great and for $400 it was worth it imo.

Porsche fan new. Not a very smooth casting.

Same fan after smoothing. Had it balanced at an electrical motor shop afterwards.

I used one of them for my 3.4 engine I built last year, together with the Rennline housing.

The surface was not too bad, but the clear coat was bad. I grid blasted and coated withe cerakote.

Here is a picture.

Cheers

That looks amazing Engelbert! I didn't expect it to look THAT good from EPS, but I did not expect the clear coat to be so sloppily applied and scuff marks where all the rivets are. I'd prefer not to have to spend $500 just to get a part that I then have to get cerakoted... ugh... why can't anything just mildly expensive?! I'm not even asking for cheap! I just don't want to be bent over every time!

Thanks for all the replies gents!

-Nick
