All right all you historians... I'm looking for pics of Yellowbird front and rear bumpers. Anyone have them? Thanks.

Hey Bill, it's Bill. I love the bumpers, have you got a side photo to show how it looks with the origional sills? My car is a freshly painted silver (used to be brown) SC. I like the smoth styling of them. I think the C2 look is too fat and round but the Yellowbird bumpers keep the sleekness of our era of the 911's.

Guys, I'm just curious about the "fuzz the plate number" suggestion. I've never figured out why people go to the trouble of doing this on photos posted on the www. First, I'm not quite sure what the big deal is and second if you don't want people to see your plate number you shouldn't take your car out of the garage! What's to stop someone from snapping a digital photo of your car (with its number plate!) in the local car park and posting it everywhere? Am I missing something here or has paranoia run amuck?

Bill,
How did you mount the front and rear bumpers to your car? Custom mounts? Original mounts? New mounts that were included with the bumpers? Did you do it yourself? How difficult? ------------------ -Richard '84 Carrera Cabriolet '74 911 Widebody 3.6 Project |

A friend of mine owns a small custom body shop. We did it together, took about a week of evenings to remove and replace. We used stock mounts were possible and drilled new bolt holes were necessary, I think about 12 small holes verticaly through the f/g into the steel fenders. They are mounted solidly to the car. He later told me that he considered it to be a pain in the ass job that he wouldn't want to do commercially.

the "fuzz" the plate number subject...
It is possible that individuals who have an interest in a given car and or it's parts and who desire to posses or test drive that car, can, with minimal effort, locate that very car by using its exposed plate number. Now, I can't imagine a need to wory about this with some cars but given the collectability and value of the various p-cars, I think caution in warranted. Yes, each of the 50 US state do have strict rules about giving our registration information but this is very easy to circumvent. This is especially true now that "identity" theft via the net is rampant. I have no doubt my comment will incite some some board members to say that it is not that easy but are you sure. Personally, I prefer to keep my car in my possession. [This message has been edited by p0r2chby (edited 07-18-2001).] |

all you need in ID is four bucks and a licence number, and you've got a name and address...

Not to highjack this topic, but help me understand the risk of showing your plate.
Do you drive around with your plate exposed or fuzzed? It is there for all to see. The greatest risk of theft would be from people in your own local, who could see you and your plate tooling about town. They would not have to travel cross country to steal it. So why should I worry about some guy in Boise Idaho seeing my plate on the net? |

The plate thing sounds like another urban myth. Like a horsepower increase from a K & N air filter.

Why not just put a 73 RS front bumper, SC flares, a 73 RS rear bumper, and a ducktail. Like this(my first 911);

You guys are cruel..........
![]() Every time I finally decide to keep my stock bumpers, someone has to ask about these damn RUF bumpers, then the pictures are posted, and then I want them again. Well, I hope you're all happy, because you've driven me over the edge this time. Now you've cost me $1K for the bumpers, and who knows how much to install them. Go ahead, get your laughs now, but when the car is finished, I'll have the last laugh!! ![]() Seriously, I agree that these bumpers provide a sporty, updated look, and avoid the bulbous C-2 aesthetics. I also really like the fact that they do away with all of the black rubber. Very clean and aerodynamic. Bill V., where did you get the little black "bumperettes" (I'm assuming they're license plate lights) for the rear bumper? Are these integrated, or bolted on? It really gives the installation a factory look. Actually, the whole car looks very "factory" with those bumpers...just beautiful on that silver car!!! ------------------ Michael '78 911SC Euro |
