RS Replica from SC?

I love the look of the pre impact bumper 911's but like just as much the rustproofing, reliability and power of the SC.

I recently saw a 1983 SC (with a 3.2 engine and BBS wheels) for about £5500 - and was wondering if it's possible to attach Pre 73 wings, bonnet and bumpers to make a sort of RS look. At that price I wouldn't be too concerned about altering it - it's had an awful set of spoilers added as it is.

I'd probably strip it right down, add buckets, maybe a cage? And finally spray it bright orange - with black wheels. It'd make quite a fun trackday car and look great too.

Is it possible? How cheaply could this be done? Would I be chased off the forum?

I was inspired by some of Jack's recent photos...

It's done pretty often, actually. CurtisAA on this board backdated a Carrera. Jens Wendorff did it, too.

These two threads have the info you need:

It is doable and you won't be chased away, except maybe by the SCWDP crowd.

I've been thinking about this one myself and I've looked at a couple of cars that have been done. Everthing bolts up. The hard part is the hood latch, the early cars are different.

What some people do is skip the latch and use the RS style straps.

Where do you find a runner for £5500?

I'll have the wheels and engine if you like, leaving the bay clear for that 2.7 lump.

Do it! If I had the money, I would.

And you would still be in the SCWDP, just under cover

911 and Porsche World or Excellence did an article on a 964 converted to early RS looks. Nice car!

check out the 74 we backdated to a 73 RS replica on our site www.tremotorsports.com and click onto cars for sale page. We also did a black 78 SC. Fairly easy to do and a great result

I've alwasy thought that was a really good idea. Start with a galvanized shell and build an early-S replicar.

Pretty soon the whole global SC plot is going to come unraveled in a mad rush to buy long hoods.

Rob, I found the car in Germany - as I did the car I have now. I not fussed by LHD. The cars are still a few thousand less there than in England although I have noticed the prices rise recently - apparently the impact bumper models are beginning to get collectable/sought after.

That said, I did have to look at quite a few before I found a good one (I looked in Holland too). But it was worth the effort.

Oh go on then, here's the link - I'm not sure if I have time to go and buy it anyway (just had a baby)...

It's a great site (click on 'suchen' to do a search)

There's a beautifully restored 914 too - £6200...
