Pelican Parts New Bbs Server Coming Soon (tonite)

Hey folks. Got a brand new Dell Pentium 1.1 ghz machine that's been in testing for the past few days. We're going to move the BBS tonite! So keep your eyes out. The speed should be much faster, particularly when the traffic gets high during the middle of the day!

We'll have a new URL for the board too...

since you are tweeking and making changes just some things I have noticed:

The links on the front page don't work...like when I click 911 Classifeds it takes me to the main BBS page...

And for the pictures or events...is there any way you can have it so when I am viewing one picture there is an arrow at the bottom that clicks to the next picture in the series instead of having to go back to the thumbnail page and click the next one...back and forth...etc...

Other then that thanks for the hard work to keep the BBS up
...so you can reduce everyone's productivity at work and school, and provide a safe haven from our girlfriend/wife/parents/creditors/parole officers etc...

It works!!

Using AT&T cable modem!!

And I can also access via direct to forums.pelicanparts.com so DNS changes have been propagated (unless is a new domain).

Great job Wayne.

Thanks

I setup the forums.pelicanparts.com domain last week. It's an entirely new server located about 50 miles from the webserver.

Isn't technology great?

I still have one or two bugs to work out with the smilies and the uploaded images...

Clock and date are off. Not a problem for us. But I know it's something you use.

You fixed it already.

Now don't laugh. I'm at 21,600 and its working great. A slight pause when a switch pages. But the pages fill fast. Thanks.

Thanks Wayne. It's going nicely. Down here in the south pacific we notice if anything is slow because it's triple slow by the time any data has dragged it's ass down to NZ.

I have also lowered the Search Function threshold to 10 seconds instead of 30. This was originally done to avoid having many searches tie up the machine. I think that the new processor dedicated to running the BBS alone should be able to handle all the requests...
