DME relay woes,..deservingly, I guess?

Cross post from RL::::

As superfluous as the DME relay questions are, I couldn't help but post this.

I'm always one to keep a spare DME relay within the bonnet,..a disciple of this, BTW.

A few months ago, I had a situation occur whereby I would apply gas pedal and the car would die out (or at least, attempt so). Pulling over,..then reseating the DME relay,..all worked normally.

This, later, happened again,..same exact symptoms ( about 6 months down the road ),....I THEN changed out the DME relay with my spare and all was well,....several months have passed and this event has intruded my Carrera's life once again...,..a reseat will cure the issue.........what was so funny about this (and made me think that I should post this primitive experience),..was that it happened yesterday..on the way home from work,.....a complete dieing of the engine when gas pedal is applied.....out of the blue,..I then just kicked (with my heel) the damned thing (relay "area"),..from a driving position,...and all was well.

Luckily, upon arrival home today,...I see that welcomed PP's box at my door,..housing several parts, to include a REAL FRIKIN DME relay (no BS DME
relay,..of which I've been using....BTW)......will load this pup tonight ,..then autopsy the present relay,..looking for evidence of (probably) contact failure/compromise.......

Aside from this,..I'll certainly drop that drivers seat and have a real good inspection of the female side of the DME relay......you never know.............

Bottom line: I suspect it to be marginally performing CHEAP DME relays (my bad,..as this has been beat to death over the years....)

STAY WITH THE GOOD SHEEIT, people.

We'll see...

BEST!

Doyle

Thanx, Joe,..fuse (and holder) looks quite sound...Well,..maybe I should reconsider..provide a brief pause...quit harping about "BS and real stuff"...

My newly rx'd relay did not work. It was bad out of the box,..PP took it back...I just had them ship in 2 of the KAE relays for a frikin' Sat delivery,..then went to work this weekend....I was running a thread over on RL ( Frikin' cheap DME relays!!!!!!!!! - Rennlist Discussion Forums ),..so I shan't regurtitate all of the details.

BTW, the new KAE relays worked fine,..I did not take them apart. As mentioned in the referenced link:

I find the KAE's to be related at 30 amps, whereby the Porsche relay is rated at 15 amps. The KAE's outer case is stamped "Made in Germany", whereby the internal potted component-the relays are Malaysian-made,..(I've not yet checked the removed KAE relay but did check (closely) the female side of the DME relay/socket....all looks well there....)....I assume the specs relate to relay contact ratings? And , in total, right?

As noted in the link, I furthered the work session with a changeout of the throttle screw (to include the O-ring) and a fresh Bosch O2 sensor (which came out without any difficulty, as I soaked this puppy for 24 hours with Kroil,.added with light raps/taps on that puppy). I posted some real crappy pics of the removed sensor,..it had a real weird signature on it and looked quite "weathered",...can one garner information from looking at this O2 sensor? I'm certain to doublecheck the mixture as soon as possible.

The base idle adjustment was VERY smooth. (I originally had a slight bit of play when I rocked the throttle [idle] screw in various directions...the orginal's O-ring was quite shrunken, but not broken...STILL,.....the new one has absolutely NO PLAY....very tight-L/R). I removed and cleaned the ICV (ohmage tests were perfect) and all connected hoses....she easily setup for 880 RPMs---I set her for 900 RPMS (A/C off) and called it a day....she has maintained this state quite repeatedly throughout today....

She feels a bit more responsive after the O2 changeout....seemingly noticeably.

Any comments are welcome.

BEST!

Doyle
