H4 upgrade
On the way back from KY, I somehow lost the headlight trim ring for my passenger side headlight. I'd been planning on upgrading anyway, so this gave me the incentive to do it now instead of waiting until the new trim rings were painted. (Hoping to have tose by Friday, along with the new decklid).
Anyway, I'm driving around with the "racoon" look right now, but have a couple of questions. First, the tech article for the upgrade is unclear - do the new rubber seals go on between the light and trim ring or the light and body? I couldn't get the light on with the rubber seals in, but I was in a hurry and didn't want to force it. Second, which way should the seals face anyway? With the grooves facing outward, or into the groove for the lamp? I needed the car for work today, but plan to re-do this again tomorrow, probably with a rubber mallet to get the surrounds to fit better. Emanuel

Rubber trim goes between the light and the body. I had trouble getting my Bosch H-4's to fit in also. I very carefully bent out the metal lip on the body which the light slids into. It did not take much (the amount of bending wasn't visible to the eye).
As I recall, the rubber trim "V" fit into the metal lip. Good luck

Emanuel. As noted the seal goes between the light and body. It actually lays in a groove with the "V" providing some stability..but from my own experience it is one of those tricky "EASY" jobs. I resorted to just a dab of 3M seal adhesive at 3 or 4 spots around the circumference to keep the seal in place on the body while you carefully "latch" the top ot the assembly to the tab a 12 o'clock. Then you must get just the right angle on the screw at the bottom. It does NOT go in at the angle you think it might...start the screw withgout the ring in place to see what angle it really goes in. )I have had my old lights on and off 4 times while I move ahead with my upgrade to Hella H-4's with separate relays (due to the 85/100W bulbs I am going to brighten my life with!)
Good luck...be patient

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll pull the and re-mount the lights tomorrow, hoping that the trim rings and decklid are back by then. And yes, the bottom screw alignment is a hassle!
