Hey Bill V (and anyone else who 964 distributor and SSI experience)
To install a 3.0 engine with 964 distributor (for twin plug), throttle bodies etc, with SSIs and 2in-1out exhaust, there is a clearance problem behind the 964 dist in respect of the factory heater blower ducting (number 11):
![]() So, the question is how to get hot, fan-blown air into the left side heat exchanger. Would it work to have the reverse of the system shown in this picture? ![]() Which is designed to route air from the single 964 fan output on the left side of the engine to both SSIs. (edit) This might have exactly what I want - where does the air go into the exchangers? Or is there scope to modify #11 from the top photo? I need heating/defrosting, so "don't worry about it" isn't an option. Thanks for help. Cam

The 964 air goes out #5 in the following diagram, thence to the fan, then to a single hole in the sheet metal #13 in the second illustration
![]() ![]() the entire top side is seen here(the upper normally aspirated engine) ![]() the Cup cars and RS had a tube which runs directly from 5 to the hole, bypassing the fan shown in the following pic ![]() On my car as origanally fitted with 964/ssi there is a T just below the sheet metal, at #1 in the following pic, there are then separate ducts to the ssi heat inlets at #2 and #3 ![]() The system will work fine with a mirror image installation, or you can try to emulate the 964 install. I think that Steve Wilkinson was going to do the mirror image install on his twin plug, perhaps he would care to comment?

If I understand what you want. In the first pic, part # 11 the stock SC air guide will not let the 964 dizzy drop into the hole. To fit a 964 dizzy in a 3.0 SC motor, use 930.106.021.50 Air Guide. The turbo part will give the clearnce needed.

Thanks Bill and Randy - great info. Hopefully Steve Wilkinson will see this too.
Randy, does the 930 part number air guide have an "air vent" to connect to the heat exchanger on the left hand side - is this what you used on your car? Or is it just a blanking plate? I hunted around until I found a picture on Jack's site: ![]() - it isn't clear in this pic if you have a connection to the LHS heat exchanger. Bill, I think I want what is in your SSI pic - a T adaptor under the RHS hose "hole" with hose going to both heat exchangers.

You are correct. The 930 air guide has a round outlet for the hose to the heat exchanger.
Here is a pic, too many wires to see clearly but you can see the curve of the air guide. Randy Jones 1971 911 |

Thanks Randy!! (and Bill) - this looks great and I have ordered the part (lets not talk about how much they want for a small piece of metal...).

Just a followup to this. I have attached a picture of the air guide discussed above. The part has been superceded by:
- Air guide 930.106.321.02 - Plugs 999.703.044.50 - Plugs 999.591.592.40 It's all in the Porsche parts computer. The plugs are cheap, and used to attach the wire holders in place or (at least) to plug holes. One type is NZ$0.21, which is less than US$0.10. I think that must be the cheapest Porsche part made! The guide needed to be modified a few millimetres (hammer and drift) to clear the distributor, and the distributor cap needed one (unnecessary) mounting guide ground off. Then it fits (sorry no pic of it in place with the distributor in place)! ![]()
