JWest Engineering Rennshift Support
Anyone know how to get ahold of these folks for support? Phone calls and emails go unanswered...
Maybe the board can answer regarding an older model of the Rennshift pictured below, I am trying to add one of the short sticks that Rennshift sells but not sure that this older model will accomodate it...incidentally I think this unit (while never installed or used was one of the first models, maybe 6-7 years old?) In any event just want to know if one of their short sticks will work (pictures on the website show a different base and stub for where the stick mounts...mine has two bolts vs. what looks like allen set screws... If anyone knows please let me know - thanks in advance... Here is the unit I have... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337806474.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337806576.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337806615.jpg |
I bought a shift coupler from JWest a few months ago and i always got their voice mail but a nice lady did eventually return my call ... as well as email me a shipping quote to Canada !
I guess slow and steady is their motto :) Cheers ! Phil |
I guess the aftermarket sales business is so swell - you can forego support...
Anyone else? |
I bought a short shift stick from him a couple months ago and he responded in a few hours, maybe he is on vaca or something? I will say this, that looks nothing like the shifter I have and I doubt the ones he has on his site will attach, but who knows...

I can't support that shifter, it is at least 8 years old. |
Interesting strategy...
Thanks James. |

There are no parts left, and there were no extra or alternate length sticks available for that version when it was new. We did support some retofits and version changes of that shifter for a while and that used up all the extra parts that we did have. |

I'm sorry if that makes you feel uncomfortable about the current shifter that has been in production for 8 years. |

Good grief! JWest isn't GM or VW. He's a small operator feeding a small market. He makes good stuff. I've got his G50 shift kit in my 88 and I couldn't be happier. And yes, I did get to talk to the nice lady on the phone.

James - what stick fits this shifter? The OE one?

The shifter you have uses a Hurst style stick - that is, Hurst company makes shifters for all kinds of cars and that is the type of attachment it uses, which is two through-bolts and serrations. Do you have the original upper stick or is it missing? My current shifter uses a round attachment so it can rotated to suit driver preference. If you let me know what you are after I can price up the work to make it what you want. I could change the stub of your shifter to use the current production upper stick, or I can change the length of your original if that is what you need. |

When you sold these 8 years ago - what did you use as a stick? Was it a Hurst style stick? Was it included when you sold the unit? What is the difference internally for this unit vs. the new one? Thanks - |

The new unit works the same as the old, the main difference of interest is the adjustable throw. The old unit was fixed, yours in the pictures was a 20% throw reduction. One option would be to send me that shifter. I will modify the stub and supply you with a new upper stick. I can do that for $85 shipped. We have sticks in stock length (the shift knob will end up at the original position) or 2-inch extended. The stick can be polished or satin alumunim or a black textured finish. Turn-around would be two days after I get it to ship back and two days for priority shipping. |
Thanks James
