Anyone ever put wing vent windows from Targa into Coupe

I really like the wing vent windows from the early Targa cars and I'm wondering why the factory did not have this on the Coupe cars. It seems that with pretty poor ventilation, the wing vent windows would completely solve this issue.

So, is a conversion even possible or do the Targa windows have a completely different shape?

Just wondering.......Vern

Umm, why not use the vent windows from an early coupe?

Targa and coupes use very different window frame setups.

I have rear vent windows. I was mostly interested in the wing vents for the front....but is sounds like that is not possible.

I know you are talking about the front.

The early coupe front wing vent window setup should work fine on your car.

The early front vent windows (coupe or Targa) are fantastic. It was one of the reasons I went for an early car.

I would like someone to tell me what they are made of - I have never seen such good chrome.

Wind wing

I just put a wind wing on my 86 and am loving it. I do not think it matters if the wing comes from a coupe or a targa.

Luck

Sorry, I did not know that the early coupes had wing vent windows. I was reading the sales literature for my '74 and it showed the differences from the Targa, Coupe, and Carrera and it only had wing windows on the Targa - I just assumed that the coupe did not have them and I wondered....why.

Now I'm feeling motivated for my next quest to find wing vents.

Definitely do it, you'll love it. I have them on my 74 Targa and its one of those things thats hard to explain how great it is until you have them. Its funny too, because everybody who sees the car comments on them and wonders why the manufacturers ever got rid of the vent windows. Like you said, on a coupe the effect will be even more pronounced.

Funny I am replacing my 74 operable vent windows for a later version non-op set. Any one interested in purchasing a chromed set of operable vent windows?

The early coupe window frames that had the front vent window were made of two different types of material. Frames up through 67 were brass and fully chrome plated--very heavy and very durable. 68 coupes had one-year-only vent windows and the frame was anodized aluminum, the same material used from then on. Either frame will work if you wish to retro-fit vent windows, but only the 68's will match the window trim of the rear windows on later cars.

BTW, targa vents will not fit into coupe frames, afik.

Yes. If for a Targa and if I can afford them. I'll pm.

I would be very surprised if the ones in my 72 are aluminum - they are very heavy and have awesome chrome. No pitting in 40 years, and they shine so bright!!!

If your car is a 72 coupe, it originally did not come with vent windows--that stopped in 69. A PO likely retro-fitted the windows and used the brass/chrome assembly as they are more abundant. They are, indeed, beautifully crafted and long lasting!

I've heard that the reason was insurance/theft.

I always wanted them on my '88 targa.

I have them on my 73.5 T. They were there when I bought the car 26 years ago. I didn't realize then that it wasn't a original car feature. The first owner must have had them installed prior to my ownership. Great addition and I open them on a regular basis. For California summers it's a must.

I had a '78 911SC coupe that was all stock, I bought it from the original owner.

It was an early SC and had chrome window frames and trim from the factory.

I had the frames off the car, and they were the very heavy chrome plated brass frames. At least twice the weight as the aluminum frames.

So, they used some of the heavy frames as late as 78.

75 all original

my 75 window frames are heavy brass chromed.. all original.
I would be careful using targa on a coupe i believe that the doors are a bit different and the frame may be too.
