Front Control Arm Rear Bushing Carrier?
I noticed that the bracket that allows the crossmember bolt to pass through the rear bushing carrier for the front control arms is tapered. Which end is up? I am guessing the larger dia. end faces up correct? The manuals I have don't say and the pictures are hazy. Can someone confirm? Thanks.

Here is a pic of the bushing carrier. The larger dia. end of the bracket that the bolt passes through is on top in pic. I would really like to get the front end back together today. Can someone help? Thanks. |
I would guess the big end goes up, but I don't know since I have Rebel Racing A-arm bushings.

Thanks Max. Since I have to press the new bushings on I only want to do it once. I know someone should know since there are all kinds of front suspension threads on replacing these bushings. Naturally when I searched I could not find the answer. Can someone please confirm 100%? Thanks.

I took this from our host:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/1974-75/4-1.JPG The wide part is on the top. I just rebuilt my front suspension and this picture came in handy. |
The wide end goes up.
The reason for this - The chassis has a bushing that fits through a hole in, and positions, the crossmember. The wide end distributes the load around the bushing such that it clamps it properly to the chassis. I appreciate you probably need to visually inspect the parts to follow that. I don't have picture. |
Thanks Keith and Chuck. Wide end up it will be.
