New old guy

Everyone

Just wanted to say hello as I've probably lurked around long enough.
Long story short, I inherited a Black 1985 Carrera from my Dad(RIP) about a year and half ago. He got her new in 85 in New York took her to so cal late 80s and pretty much drove her till 2000. Then other things in life took priority and unfortunately she sat for ten years. He planned on restoring her one day... (carpe diem) fortunately, I was able to get the car out of his evil girlfriends (another story) driveway before sh!$ hit the fan after his death.
Anyways, took the car to Jason at RSR Enterprises in Ventura and he went through her pretty good, got her running. That was the extent of what I wanted for the moment. Well, of course there are a list of issues but the car starts and runs very solid consistently which for me has always been a great starting point in any project.
The most frustrating issue that Jason uncovered besides the oil leak that developed was Two broken head studs (sigh...). I've seen some part out a strong running 911 based on broken head studs. For me, this car is a time machine to my youth. I have too many memories of driving with my Dad, so for me this car is special. I've always loved the car and selling or parting out is not an option for me. I think it would honor my Dad well to get his old baby back up to snuff. Obliviously, an engine rebuild is in the near future and I figured I had better go on the record and get some advice as I get to decision making time. For now I'll include some pics of the car when I got her to the shop last year (Jason's RSR Clone hiding under the cover.) I'll post more quality ones soon. You guys can expect some questions coming so thanks in advance. I am impressed, I have seen that there is a strong, supportive community here. I am thankful that such a cool place exists as I undertake a restore of one great automobile in honor of pops.
Cheers
Dan

Dan,
That's a great story - your Dad's car. Awesome. The black Carrera looks great and I'm sure that over time you'll appreciate the car more and more as you fix things here and there. We have a 56 Chevy in the family that was bought by my Grandfather. It's neat to have a keepsake like that passed down. Sorry for your loss on the way to gaining this car though.

Good luck and chime in any time here on the forum. There's a lot of support available.

Great car, terrible photos

Won't take much to square it up. Get the top end rebuilt, replace the brake hoses, tires, flush all the fluids, and you're good to go.

Dan, great story. I like the patina of the car, and also the license plate
For all the reasons you, and everyone else said, its really important to keep this car. Best of luck with it.
