What spring is this from the pedal assembly?

I found it rolling around in the pedal assembly area while I am performing a clutch cable replacement.
And it appears that it might be snapped off at the end opposite the hook end.
Any links to where it goes? I have the 1986 Turbo manuals, but cannot find any pics of the pedal assembly.

One end fits on the tapered/round post in your picture! The other end attaches just forward of that, on the side of the pedal tray.

So, it is broken... agreed?
What's weird is I cannot find the other end. I've had the car for 10 years and 35k, but this is the first time I've had to go in the pedal cluster.

No question, it's broken. It's supposed to be about twice that length.

This is the comparison of the broken one and its replacement on my SC.
