sc flares and fuchs/minilite size

hi friends,

i have an 911T with SC flares .... i currently have 6/7 x 16 fuchs on it..
i am thinking about changing them with minilites 7 + 8x 15...
but i wonder if i could also put 9 x 15 on the rear?

you've got to be careful with 'which' minilites you choose, both the modern minilites and reproductions like the superlites, the offset pushes them farther outboard, so rubbing on the fender arch is very likely. Superlites it seems are farther outboard than minilites, but not by much.

I've got superlite 16x7's and 16x8, and 225's are as wide as I can go in the rear. With Fuchs, I expect I'd be able to squeeze 245's back there. My flares are RS flares, but not all that different from your SC flares.

hi, i can have the minilites with pretty the same offset as the fuchs..
7 x 15” ET[-]6 - ET16

8 x 15” ET3-ET[-]16

i just was wondering if the 9 x 15 would fit on the rear... i am not a specialist on wheels but do i have to go 245 for the 9 x 15 or can i stay with 225?

I trial fit some 16x9 w/ 245s on my '72 when I was welding on the flares. There appears to be plenty of room on my car, but as always, it's best to borrow a set from someone before buying.

that s 16 x 9 ..... i was thinking on 15 x 9.. but nice flares..

There are a couple factors you have to consider.

The flares aren't original to the car, so they were added. Which means they could have more or less clearance than a car that had them installed from the factory.

The other consideration is offset. The 16x9 Fuchs have an offset of 15. You want an offset number the same or higher than that. If it's any lower than 15 (or negative) you won't have the clearance.

My suggestion is to find somebody with a set of 16x9's and see how much they fill the fender. If they are really tight, then somebody welded them on a little tighter to the body and you'll have clearance issues. If they fit handily, you have more room. Even if they fit fine, I'd still try to get the width and offset as close as possible to the 16x9's and if you want to fill the fenders more, use spacers.

as Will said, it's easy to add spacers to move the wheel outboard....but moving it inward is much more difficult.

these cars are all different, but especially with added flares, butt or lap welded....they are all different, very different.

sorry to bother but all the answers i get are about the 16 x 9 wheels and i am looking for informations on 15 x 9 ... i supose they are smaller ??

Diameter doesn't mean that much compared to width and offset. Your car currently sets on 16 x7 and x8's (as you said). If you install 15x9's, you will need to either

a. run a width and aspect ratio that increases the overall wheel/tire diameter to that of a 16x9.
b. lower you car an inch.

Otherwise your car will set like it's a rally car with big fender gaps. Borrowing a set of 16x9's will quickly give you a reference to how much space you have in your rear fenders. Then you can go with the tire or ride height that gives you what you want.

15x9 and 16x9 have the same fitment issues --- width, not diameter. So 16x9 answers apply to your situation.

If you want my opinion, 15" tires are pretty rare. 15"x9" wheels are totally awesome. I'd love to have a set on my car, but finding properly wide 15" wheels with an aspect ratio that looks good on a 911 and be street legal is impossible in the US right now. Tires do exist for 15x8's. So if I were buying wheels for my car, I'd get a set of 15x8's with an offset of +10 (very close to Fuchs), fit my tires, adjust my ride height until I'm happy, and then add spacers until the car looks totally badness.

Steve,

What size tires are you running currently? I'm assuming 205/55-16 and 225/50-16.
The tire sizes you list are close, overall diameter-wise, to the sizes I list above, so you are on the right track there. You should need to play with your ride heights much.

When it comes to your wheels, make sure you get the offset right. Stock 7" wide fuchs have an offset of 23.3. Stock 8" Fuchs have an offset of 10.6. A set of 9" wide wheels with an offset of 15 (same as 16"x9" Fuchs) only bring the outside edge of the wheel 8.3mm closer to the fender's edge. Which that is an easy gap to manage with spacers considering the potential clearance differences of hand welded flares.

Really nice car, btw. I like the color combination. Some wide 15" wheels will really polish it off.

You assume right... As i wrote , i was decided on the 8x 15 rear but then i was wondering if 9 x 15 would fit to and if it would be nicer...i think the S/T had 9 x 15 ...

I think i will go with
7 x 15. 205/60. And 8x15. 215 or 225 / 55
OE optional wheels in the mid to late '70s on Carrera's was x15, 7ET23.3 & 8ET10.6 w/ 205/50 & 225/50 tires, you could also use a 205/55 front instead of the 205/50

you can fit 9x15 ET15 w/ Carrera rear flares but tire selection is extremely limited for the 9" wheel, a 225/50 or 225/45 or 245/50 x15 is too narrow for that width. Most of the tires that you could fit are track oriented like the 275/35 x15 Hoosier R6
