I need magnetic numbers

Can someone please tell me what the requirements are for numbers to do DE with PCA?

I would like to do 3 numbers, I was told to get individual magnetic numbers in case I have to change my number instead of a pre-made rectangle with numbers. (good idea I think). I have a silver car and would like something that looks cool as well. Possibly black numbers with an outline? What height do I need? Do I have to specify group as well? if so, what size? Anybody have a link and a suggestion for me.

I made my first set of numbers myself.

Bought a magnetic sheet from an office supply store, cut out the numbers with a razor knife, and sprayed them the color I wanted with a rattle can.

You will want to have the numbers on steel when you spray them, or the edges will curl as the paint dries.
My second set came out great.

That's the best way....btw, a good idea is to buy colored tape that matches and tape the leading edge into the wind. Silver duct tape is tacky and leaves a residue.

Never liked magnetic numbers, have seen to many instances of them being peeled off the car, unless you tape the leading edge...

There is no rule or specification inre numbers for a DE..... before the money hit... people used white shoe polish on the windows and scraped it off with a razor when the event was done.. Some people make numbers out of masking tape.!!

When I started 25 years ago, I used to get peel and stick numbers from Home Despot, They still carry them..

White background, black block font, 6 in height.... I put them on the passenger side of the windshield, both rear vent windows, and high on the rear window

I think you will be doing this DE with Metro? any of the above would be fine

Look at your club's rules...they specify size etc. Pegasus and others sell these. Magnetic numbers are fine but must be taped at the leading edge or you will soon be driving over them.

I use white electrical tape and place them in the rear side windows. I think the numbers have to be a minimum of 4 inches high.
I used to have magnetic numbers. Like others have said you have to tape the leading edges or the numbers fly off.

Most DE and AX groups want 6 inch numbers and 4 inch class....some even as tall as 8 and 6. Check the rule book.

Im just making a leap of faith... that since the OP is posting from Brooklyn, that he will be doing his first event with Metro NY PCA.... of course I could be wrong

Quote:
Car Number
When you register for your first Metro NY DE event, you are assigned a car number for the event. This number
is on your confirmation letter/email. This number is permanently assigned to you for all subsequent Metro NY
DE events you enter. You may request a particular number on your application but don’t assume you will be
assigned it until you have your confirmation for the event. Once committed to doing several events, you may
want to consider acquiring some detachable numbers (see “Miscellaneous Tips” ). On the other hand, Novices
may not want to go to this expense and may use masking tape, painters tape or ‘no lift’ racers tape etc. to form
the numbers on either side of the car. The tapes all have less adhesive than duct tape (for example) and will not
damage the paintwork of your car.

Quote:
Car Number
Place your pre-made numbers on both sides of the car, or use masking
tape to form your assigned number. Make sure they are as large as
possible (and at least 4 inches high - and preferably somewhat larger)
so flag marshals can easily identify your car.
Car numbers must be displayed in three locations: On the left and right
side – either on the body panels or the rear side windows – and in the
upper windshield corner on the passenger side. The numbers must be
in a contrasting color to the tint of the glass or the body panel color.

Quote:
Removable Car numbers
Once you have made a commitment to do several DE events, you may want to consider getting you assigned car
number made up on a removable decal. Numbers should be at least 5 inches high. You may choose numbers
made from magnetic material, or vinyl numbers stuck on to a magnetic background circle. Remember that a
magnetic decal may come unstuck at high speeds. It is therefore recommended to use some masking tape to
secure the leading edge of the decal. This is especially true for magnetic panel numbers; less of a problem for
individual magnetic numbers.
Those are the Metro NY regions requirements for numbers...

I used magnetic numbers only for Autocrossing.

But ya gotta be careful taking your street car to the track- I did that a few years ago, now my car has a roll cage and permanent numbers! I had to get another car for street driving!
