Anyone have pic of early 911 red interior?

I am looking for some pictures of a red interior car...

not RED red but that darkish boxster/lobster red....

I am wondering if older cars cam with colors other then black...

and if so how the color scheme was distributed...

dash, knee pads, seats, headliner, a/b pillars, door trim pieces

exterior is planned to be gunmetal grey...and the RS panels will be black, and the RS carpet will be grey...

MJ

MJ:

Here are two photos of a red interior from a '65 911 from Peter Morgan's "Original Porsche 911" book:

Hopefully this will give you an idea of where to "paint it red".

I think the red interior looks great in black or silver cars and I plan on redoing my '72 in an all red leather interior with proper early sport seats.

Best,

Kurt

I'll have a number of photos in about a week. I'm in the process now of replacing my standard black vinyl interior with red leather. My car's interior is gutted at the moment. I'll be installing RS door panels today. The sport seats are done. I'm waiting on the upholsterer for the rear seats, side panels, and back shelf. I'm basically following the same pattern as the factory did with tan interiors, except in red. I'm also replacing the lower dash trim black basketweave with red leather. That might be the toughest part of the entire conversion! I've got to figure out how to remove all the switches, etc. to do it. Here's a glimpse of the changeover:

Curt, that Targa is beautiful. Post some photos when you get the interior finished.
Here's some photos of a 73S that a friend of mine used to own.
This thing was incredible, everything was perfect. He sold it for an astronomical price, it hits the market every now and then for big bucks. Probably the nicest red interior I've seen.

I've got a 73E that came with the red leather interior and metallic gold exterior. It was a special order I believe and also had both front and rear spoilers and nice sport seats.

I wish I knew the history...either an athletes car in team colors or a pimp are my 2 guesses.

Over the years the car had been painted silver and then black (all 3 layers of paint plus one thick layer of self-etching primer were on the car). It's down to bare metal now for a repaint to tangerine.

One of the POs took some of that vinyl paint to the interior and turned it black so I am going to keep it black (sigh, I love the red interiors but the black will look better with the tangerine) . Besides, most of the panels, pockets are too beat up and need to be redone. He did not do a great job of painting the sport seats and the red shows through in a lot of places so they need work too.

Bruce, thanks for the comments. I assume the interior was original from the factory on that 73S? Very unique!

Fritz, gold with red, eh? S.F. 49er's maybe? -- Curt
