Burned on EBAY, long

Hi everyone.

While I think in general ebay has been a positive experience for me, I thought I should post the recent bad experience I have had.

this is the item in question

Once I won the item, I immediately contacted the seller and made payment over the phone via credit card so I could speed up the process. He called me back at a later date and said he misscalculated on the shipping and wanted another 5 or 7 dollars, so I said OK and he charged me a higher amount than initially quoted. March 4th comes along and I finally receive the package only to find that it had only the male ends of the belts inside, which are no good to me. Anything but a complete set. I emailed him to tell him so and this was my response: "There are more pieces, sorry, I thought my guy put everything (he did say he did) in the box. I will locate the rest of the set and get to you. Sorry...
Chip"

Still nothing, and when I emailed him again I got this"I will make sure that you get all the parts that were off the car. If what
you get is incorrect, I will correct the error until it is right."

I then emailed him again on the 4th of April telling him once again my displeasure offering to send him back what I had received so far , for my money back.Basically saying he is looking for negative feedback..

This is what I received back " I had one of my more dependable employees rounding up your parts
yesterday... Patience... please... Parts are coming."

Still nothing so on but on april 10th I recieved this email" Box of remaining belt hardware went out today... Again... sorry for the
delay...
Chip"

I waited until april 23rd and then out of frustration posted begaitive feedback, seeing he had a 90k racecar listed and figured it was only fair for bidders to see that in my eyes, he had ripped me off.

On the 9th of may , I received a UPS parcel containing two female ends for the front belts.

I wrote him a letter asking him to be more accurate in his descriptions in his future auctions, as I still have yet to receive "everything that was removed from the" car OR a complete "Seat Belt set" I am still without the rear female ends for the back, as well as the bolts that would come out of a car that was being stripped, and made into a racecar.

He posted comments to my feedback, which got me upset so I emailed him on it...this was his response:

You got everything that came out of the car. Quit being a pansy. There was a picture of the items in the auction. Did you ask for an item by item inventory. NO. Did you look at the picture to see what you were buying YES. Did I TRY to appease your candied ass buy sending parts that you said were missing (from yet another parts car!!!) Yes... Give me a break... What are you... some sort of litteral liberal lawyer???????? Gobs of positive feedback on my side... demonstrate that I am a person of my word and that I have many satisfied clients...

Best in the future.
Chip

Sorry to rant , but this guy has really irked me. Being in the business of Porsche's and racecars, I took his words in his auction as being a complete set .

What do you think? I have never posted negative feedback to anyone before, and also have never been given it.

Am I in the wrong here?

you did the right thing...You should be getting the same service as the guy buying the 80k car from him ...These guys tend to forget about the service when it comes to "small ticket" items...Bottom line on ebay is a negative feedback is a negative feedback , whether its big ticket or a small item...At least you got your positive before you left his negative!!! Smart man

Jay, he posted positive feedback quickly , as he was paid quickly.

I waited plus or minus a day or two 2 MONTHS before I left his negative feedback.

I guess I should post what I emailed him in order to get his last response :

1986 930 Porsche seat belt set, NR

what does the word "set" actually mean?

"Removed from a 40,000 street car prior to putting in the race harnesses and roll cage. This is everything we removed from the interior of the car, all in nice condition. Car was inside most of its life... "

What is everything that was removed from the car?? Certainly not all of what I received.

You are full of it chip. I saw your response to that feedback... its very lame in my opinion. I have saved this auction and if anyone emails me asking about it, you know what they are gonna hear.

amd again his response was:

You got everything that came out of the car. Quit being a pansy. There was a picture of the items in the auction. Did you ask for an item by item inventory. NO. Did you look at the picture to see what you were buying YES. Did I TRY to appease your candied ass buy sending parts that you said were missing (from yet another parts car!!!) Yes... Now i was only going to tell anyone that asked me about his dealings, but his rude response to that email irked me, so I posted it here.

Sorry to rant, but as far as I am concerned this guy did me a bogus business deal, and he deserves this board to see what kind of business he in fact does do.

As far as the big ticket item being the same as a small item, I agree...but If i were bidding on a complete racecar from him and saw all of his other auctions, I'd take the posititve feedback with a grain of salt , as most of it is small items like what I purchased.

Hopefully his other future auctions (including the 90k racecar) go smoother than the item i won.

if you used a major credit card you can probably recoupe your money and come clean from the bad transaction. i have done this in the past and if you have documentation there shouldn't be any problem, the timeframe in which this can be done is usually 90 days.
you did everything on your part, he just sounds like a deadbeat seller.
hope this helps

You could have placed your charge in dispute with your credit card for the balance of what he owed you, but you only have 60 days in which to do this.

That is the one thing good about using a credit card for purchases. If you are in dispute with a customer, or did not receive the goods you paid for, you send a letter you charge card company putting it into dispute. They will investigate and will usually refund you your money if you prove that you did not receive what you purchased.

But, you only have 60 days in which to act.

I changed my cards number , just in case the guy wanted to run the card or pass it on.

I've had it with him, and am not wasting more of my time trying to get my money back.

EBAY is and has been good for me, but I guess these things are inevitable. Hopefully , people that read his feedback will email me and ask me why I left the feedback.
