Anybody got a black Porsche? What's the best stuff for making the paint look new and keeping it that way?

liquid ebony and a high speed buffer, followed by a high quality carnuaba wax. It will shine like glass.

The paint on my 78SC is two years old. A gentle wash, bimonthly wax, and car cover keeps it nice. Always use a car cover to protect the paint fro mthe elements.
Always wax the car in one direction, that of air flowing over the car. If there are any scratches resulting from washing, and you wash in a circular motion, the scratches will be visable from almost any angle. If you only touch the paint in one direction, the scratches, if any, are only visiable from one direction. So wash, dry and wax in one direction only - from the nose to the tail. ![]() ------------------ Paul 78SC Targa |

I have had excellent results from using Nu-Finish. It is readily available, and comes in an orange container. Make sure you get the liquid type (not the paste in the tin). After you wash the car, and dry it, simply wipe it on, and wipe it off a minute later. Do one section of the car at a time, and try to keep the stuff off of the trim. Makes my car beautiful. Also, don't use this (or any other product) in the sun, or when the decklid is hot, as the heat will cause a "smeared" look when you wipe it. Really, the stuff works, and I've always had good results on my black targa. Best of luck.

My body shop told me 60 days when I got it back from having a new fender welded on last year, Jack. Seemed to make sense.
Wish I had a garage. My paint is showing signs of wear. It's 15 years old, too. ------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 1987 Escort 5-speed 1.9 RIP The Porsche Owners Gallery |

Jack, you should wait 3 months before waxing with any silicone based products. I use 3m Imperial hand glaze or Perfect-It 3 hand glaze during the curing process. If you can find it CarGroom #24 Carnauba cream wax works excellent on newly painted surfaces. Its made by U.S. Chemicals and plastics in Massillon Ohio. It allows the paint to breathe and cure while protecting it....TargaEuro

TargaEuro, do you mean that I could wax with the CarGroom #24 sooner than three months? How much sooner?

![]() I use all Meguiars Gold Products and my biggest problem is trying to photograph the car without everything near it showing up in the reflection. ![]() |

Jack, you can wax with it after the paint has dried. Dried and cured are different. By dried I mean out of the paint booth and ready for daily use. Curing takes about 3 months usually. I do use it and I really like it. I also use 3m glazes aswell. I think CarGroom #24 leaves the paint feeling much smoother and glossier than 3m. Both are great products. I buy it where I buy my paint and body supplies....TargaEuro

I should add that the 3m Imperial and Perfect-It glazes are used the same as the CarGroom carnauba wax, after paint has dried (right out of the paint booth) during the curing process. After I wet sand I use 3m Perfect-It 3 rubbing compound, machine glaze and hand glaze to bring out the shine and CarGroom #24 to protect it. Its a good combo....TargaEuro
