What's Your Dream Engine???

So I'm sitting here in my leather recliner, hands folded behind my head, drooling over this pic and wishing it were in my car

Sooner or later, the thirst (for more speed) gets you

Hey WydRyd, you are a horsepower junkie!

That motor is a bit flash for my taste. I am not really interested in how a motor looks, as long as it is resonably clean - just how it drives! That includes smoothness/tractability as well as performance. It's how the motor looks INSIDE that is important!

My goal is balanced, smooth performance from chassis and engine. My dream engine would be normally aspirated, not a fan of turbos. Perhaps my euro 3.2, rebuilt with 100mm Mahle P+C (3.5), micrometer blueprint, twin plugged, Stainless free-flow exhaust... nothing extreme, lots of tractable torque.

yeah that would do me. Should be good for 280bhp. Quite enough for the narrow body style, and no turbo-lag.

Or maybe a large capacity twin-plug MFI....

i guess its all relative and you have set your sights high now!

i have more modest ambitions. i wanna sort handling/brake issues first but when i have cash........

i like low down grunt for the street (better for short shifting which i like to do with the 915 ), so probably a 3.4 rebuild (currently 3.2), and either a sc or turbo. max torque at 2-3k revs sounds good to me!

i'd be happy with 300 - 350 hp, but shedloads of torque

I'll confess to being an old fart...2.8, peaky cams, MFI, nice two out exhaust through SSI's, twin plugged...that's enough to turn my fantasy crank.

Porsche Crest 959 engine-

Porsche has made my favorite engine already and put it in the 959. It also has 4 valve\cylinders and water cooled heads though!

Our man Olsen seems to be doing well with his 3.6 naturally aspirated beast. (See his post from today)

Porsche Crest

The factory already did the 'perfect' engine ... 308 DIN hp @ 8000 rpm ... in the fall of 1972!!! As Paul said, a 2.8 with MFI and dual plugs ...

Just to review a little history ... it's the one on the bottom:

I will say that my most sought after engine would be a perfect copy of the original RUF CTR "yellowbird".... and i'd stuff in the rear of my SC and just confuse people when all they saw was the rear of the car .. but i'm sure they would get a better look at it after i crashed it . hahaha I'd love to have all that power ! but i'm sure it would be the end of me somehow1 hahaha.. but yes the RUF CTR engine, would be my choice.

You would think with all of the gorgeious detailing, chrome and paintwork on that red engine they would have bothered to do something with that A/C bracket like chop it down. Is it there to serve drinks on?

What about the flat 12 turbo in the 917/30? 1100 reliable hp and 1500 with the boost screwed up. If I had a bazillion dollars and it would fit in a 911 that would be my choice. If it didn't fit and I only had a gajillion dollars it'd be a 935 motor. No detuning either!

My perfect engine. I would take a 7R case put 2.7 pistons or mybee 2.8 twin plug 10.5 compression. port the and CC the heads to perfection. Balance the motor to perfection. MFI intake, custom pump rebuild by Gus. RSR headers.S cams . might need more cams than S But I would not want RSR cams somthing inbetween. Run it on pump gas and be able to take the girl friend to the beach. She would have to bring a blanket there would be no heat. That should go 20 grand or so.
