Source for ALUMINUM oil cooler fittings to repair early S cooler??

The early 911S used a smaller fitting than the 72-up on their oil coolers. The coolers are aluminum and the male fittings are assembled at the time of manufacture.
Enter many years of exposure to the elements and the steel nut "welds" itself to the aluminum male threaded end.
Hence it strips the threads off the cooler fittings. I have tried BAT in florida, the usual suspects that sell aircraft fittings to no avail.

I have two coolers to repair and wish to find the correct fittings, so i can cut off the old ones and weld the new ones on.

We would even entertain getting a small production run of these machined up, but time is short for a deadline we have to meet

One other option is if someone has a damaged unrepairable early cooler that we can cut the nice condition fittings off of

Please help!
thanks
dave

Hi Dave, Have you talked to Neil at Newco? He has, or can get, lots of Cohline fittings. Perhaps he could point you in the right direction. Good luck! -John

Dave, a little late now, but I've found that using a Dremel tool and a very very careful hand, you can cut the oil line nuts off with no damage to the threads. You have to have at least 4 cuts and use a screwdriver to leverage the cuts open. Have done 3 coolers with excellent results.

If you end up needing an excellent original cooler, let me know, I have a few.

Dave: Have you tried Pilot Supplies, Avionics, and Homebuilt Aircraft Parts from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Co. as a source for aluminum fittings? Lots of hoses on aircraft have aluminum fittings, though I don't know if they are the same as those you're looking for. Here's a good place to start: AN Fittings from Aircraft Spruce. Here are some nipples that come in steel and aluminum. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/an816.php. If the threads are correct, could you just remove the thread part that is set up for flared fittings, and use the other half? Just trying to think outside the box a bit....

Also, I think Aviall at Van Nuys Airport has an aircraft hose shop, too. Maybe they'll have the fittings you need.

HTH.

Scott

Dave,

I have a cooler that may have some pinhole leaks. It's had one fitting repaired already but if you can use it, let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

Setrab oil coolers are made up the road (30 miles) from me .

I was going to stop over at Jeggs and see about some fittings for a custom project I'm working on.

I may just call Setrab because I'll be using at least 2 of their coolers and I may buy a 3 for up front.I bought a junk oil cooler off Ed Baus to cut down (remove core) and bolt up to where the stock cooler bolts , welding on fittings for hoses to run to a left and right oil coolers.

Might be worth a call .

Has anyone repaired a Carrera oil cooler (86)? Is this similar? My hose fittings were leaking abd then broke when they were removed? Can a new fitting be used on the original oil cooler?

I called POCS and they said $300-400 depending on the damage to my oil cooler. I was also considering the Pelican part for $215...does anyone have experience with this?
