Seat Hell, Grrrrrrr

Okay, just had a pair of 84-95 non sports professionally upholstered and made adapters for my 72 just to find out (on final install) the passenger seat back won't lock in position - it falls backwards when leaned / sat on and creeps forward when left alone. Please help me out guys, this is driving me nucking futs. Would have preferred to put some period correct GTS seats in but don't have the cash, now I'm several hundred dollars into these and the passenger seat is a bag 'o ****e. Please tell me I don't need to strip the vinyl...

Sounds like the wire running from the seat release in the seat back didn't get installed correctly by whoever put the seats back together. It's a pain to get on and can easily slip off or get pinched during assembly. It is attached/mounted on the big flat screw bolt holding the 2 halves together. (If I remember correctly, it's been 9 months since I re-did mine)
Shouldn't have to pull the vinyl, it should be accessible once you start taking the 2 halves apart.

Double checked - think the wires either side of the seat back are good - same as the other seat which works well. I think it is something to do with the seat back release mechanism / handle located on the front of the seat. On the 'good' seat the handle is firm and you can feel the mechanism release when you lift the handle, on the 'bad' seat the handle has more movement, and even without lifting the handle the seat back will recline / move forward, you can feel the ratcheting on the mechanism but the seat won't lock in place. Any help greatly appreciated.
