What's this spring for ?

Strange that after several years of ownership I never noticed this strange long, thin spring... what's it for ?
Somehow, it doesn't look very "factory" to me...

i guess the PO wanted the peddle to pop up that last 1/2 inch!!!!

Yes
Not a factory spring.
Check to see if the throttle spring on the engine bell crank is there.
I'm guessing the PO, rather than fix the bushings on the trans. bell crank and engine bell crank, elected to use another spring.
