Dead pedal on cold start, 1983 911 sc

I have a 1983 911 sc that recently gave problems with warm start, but was remedied when I replaced the fuel regulator and fuel filter.

Now my issue is cold start. The engine fires great and runs fine for about 3-5 seconds and then begins to falter. When I apply the accelerator there is no response or a "dead pedal". I usually turn off the ignition and restart and after 2 or 3 tries it seems to begin to respond to accelerator pumping, but often I then smell raw gas.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,
Newt

Dead pedal on cold start on 1983 911 sc is a newbie

I am a newbie and I'm sure my use of wording was not correct with the first post.
However, I do need ideas on what the problem might be. Thanks.
Sorry

Additional info.......

Newt,

Welcome to the forum. Please indicate more about your engine's induction system. Do you have carburetors or fuel injection? You'll get better responses if the readers would know some critical information needed to offer you a meaningful advise or suggestions. Keep us posted.

Do you have an injection fuel pressure gauge set up yet?
You need to know your cold and warm start pressures. Running pressure, system pressure and then go from there using your Bentley for specs and searching the threads here for how to adjust/repair for cold start problems.

Newt,

This is a common problem on the late lambda CIS SC. The mixture is too lean to sustain a cold idle once the retard kicks in. Multiple attempts dump raw fuel from the CSV and gets it over the hump. It is not a parts swapping solution. Pumping the pedal on a CIS car is a mistake, it does not help and you can blow the airbox.

It seems that we have the same problem.
Had hot start problem, changed the fuel accumulator and fuel filter. fixed the hot start problem but it coused the cold start problem that worked great before I fixed the hot start problem.

mine doesn't start on first kick only on the second with the pedal full down to the floor.

Thanks for responses. Information I have is sparse, but quite sure the 83 SC has the K Jetronic FI Lambda System. Not sure what Lambda represents.

I want to buy a fuel pressure tester and am thinking about Pelicans part no TOL-TA33865 for $117. or PEL-PP910450 at $229.

They both seem a little pricey, especially the latter. Does anyone know if the lesser one would adequately meet my need?

Appreciate the help.

TOL-TA33865 looks like the one I have, although I bought it from another source. It worked fine for me.

Where are you located? Might be able to find someone nearby that has some experience and the gauges handy.

P.S.: I noticed that some posts have their vehicles listed. Is there a place to post that?

dont pump the gas unless you have a pop off valve...airbox may be cracked. ben

Not sure about a pop off valve, but it does have a stainless encasement on the back.

I ordered the TOL-TA33865 from Pelican. Thanks for the assistance.
