Spring Plate Bushing Covers
I'm still working my way through the issues on this car. The spring plate bushing covers are rusted and coming apart. I have a replacement set to install and will do bushings too. Question is, is the car dangerous to drive like this? Am I doing any damage? It's gotten hot here and I'm still recovering from back surgery, so I'd like to put this job off, but want to drive the car as much as possible. Depending on answers here, I may have to park it for a while.

is that the brittle rust it looks like, or is it ages of road grime, etc???
...im thinking my answer would lie therein... ...you CAN just replace the covers for the time being...if you have a jack to support trailing arms, it would be bad at all... |

Mostly grime, but plenty of rust. I removed the cover (mostly) so you good get a better pic of what's going on!

I would think it's time to park it or fix it.

just replace them and do it right when you can, they'll be fine.

pressure wash the area first
I would not drive it given the rust shown inspect torsion bars, bushings (will surely need replacement), & inside of torsion tube (using a borescope) |

How's the front suspension??
Might be a good time to have a look at the front pan and suspension attachment points. For that mater, i wonder how the inner trailing arm bushing mounts and the anti roll bar mounts are doing???
One of mine was rusted off the other one cut off - now fixed with solid Wevo parts. Regards, chris |
