				LWB suspension in SWB ?

What suspension pieces, if any, could be transferred over from a LWB into a SWB? I'm very happy with how my 78 handles (big torsion bars, sways, adj swing plates), but I've always wanted a coupe.

I have my eye on a SWB roller, but I wonder how much of my suspension I'll be able to transfer over. Thoughts?

Nothing in the rear. The front can be swapped over in its entirety - brakes and suspension. It is a big improvement (mainly in the ball joints).

				LwB into swb

The difference between lwb and swb lies primarily in the torsion tube, where

the trailing arms hookup. You can replace the front end pre 69 with later components. Example, I replaced the entire front end on a 66 912 with later 911. The torsion bars are all interchangeable, front and rear. The rear swb is where you will have problems. Additionally, the rear shock mount Perches are different. Early trailing arms were steel whereas 74 and later were aluminum. You cannot install 69 and later trailing arms on a swb car. Additionally, the stub axles are different between early and later years. |
