74 Carrera purchase question

I am thinking about purchasing a 74 Carrera. I was advised the engine is a 2.7 with 68,000 miles (stock/no rebuild). The turbo flares were added to the vehicle as with a new paint job. The seller is asking 24,000 for it. I thought the price may be a little high due to the fact the engine being original and the problems that tend to come with the 2.7 . I am posting some pictures with hopes of any feedback from my pelican friends.

Thanks,

Pat

My opinion: the seller is on drugs. Tell you what for $20K you can buy my '86 Carrera and I'll drive the car to your house.

well, you gotta consider what else that $24K could get you:

A higer mileage 964
a lower mileage 3.2 w/G50
a concours-ish earlier 3.2 or SC
a decent restored early S

I guess the '74 Carrera is the most desirable of the middle-year cars, but $24K desirable?

74 carrera

For some reason the turbo look w/o turbo mtr seem to have a higher resale see excellence market report. A 3.0 ltr turbo look will give you better brakes, waaaay better motor, better sound proofing, and those germans were very proud of their cars after 1978...and lastly you have a real look with added market value, without the glued on fenders. (I should tell you I own one, so I am not really a fair judge).....$24k if you don't buy the car at least get the name of what he is drinking...seems to make anything believeable

For $24K I'd buy this car long before a modified '74 Carrera. If it were absolutely concourse, maybe.

I thought the Turbo Look started with the 1984 3.2? (It had Turbo brakes but the motor was identical to the normal Carrera.) Do you have some sort of Werks II/Special wish car? Tell us more!

It's certainly made him crazy. It's impossible to tell from the photos, but this car can't be worth more than $10-12K no matter how nice it is. If it ain't that nice, it's gonna be worth a lot less. In the seller's defense, if it's a euro carrera with the rs motor, it might be worth somewhat more.

I completely agree. Why are people so greedy these days?

The data in the CD-type disc decodes easily into ASCII computer text as follows, using 8 bit binary:
*
"Beware the bearers of FALSE gifts & their BROKEN PROMISES. Much PAIN but still time. (Damaged Word). There is GOOD out there. We OPpose DECEPTION. Conduit CLOSING (BELL SOUND)”
*
The damaged word would appear to be intended as “BELIEVE”.

Way over price. Firstly, it's a US spec Carrera (equiv. to ROW 2.7 911S) and not the really desirable ROW 2.7 Carrera (with, of course, the famed 2.7 RS Carrera engine w/MFI). Secondly, it's been messed with - I'm personally not a fan of Turbo flare unless it is a Turbo, or track car.
Don't buy it!

That car was looking pretty perfect till I read this:
"About 25,000 miles--and 17 years--ago, this engine came to enjoy a major top end rebuild, a 2.4S WEBER kit replaced the unreliable MFI, ..."

Aaak!

If you like the turbo look cars, there's an '86 iris blue metallic Targa for sale here in Phoenix. I'm not sure what a turbo look is worth... seems a bit high to me. Still, gottal love that color!

Here it is.
