2 questions on Clutch Pedal switch adjustment

car is an 84 carrera & the cruise control can be shut off by depressing the clutch pedal which in turn mechanizes the finger contact on the switch...
My first question:
1. when setting switch "contact" = touching with pedal cluster (clutch in my case), it is my understanding that you want the finger "TIP" to just make contact with the pedal cluster VS. the "middle" area of the finger contact which by coincidence has the same contour outline as the contact point/metal thickness on the pedal cluster, right...??

2. to test switch...just do a continuity test right...?? = switch in natural state you have continuity...move the finger contact tip and you create an open = loose continuity, right...??

Reason for my questions, specifically the second question, which does sound dumb is that the cruise is working on the car. HOWEVER, when clutch pedal is depressed, engine races = DOES NOT TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL...I even went to the extreme...you know me I ALWAYS go to the extreme...well anyway...I tied a pc of twine to the switch finger...went for a ride...engaged the cruise control...pushed in the clutch pedal and the engine raced = switch not interupting circuit = cruise keeps working...THEN, I would pull on the finger switch I tied the twine to and still does not kill the cruise...Once & a while if I jigged the twine like fishing, once it shut the cruise off...

Wires and all look fine to switch...so,
3 Questoins now...can the cruise work with this switch wired up in the circuit but the cruise will just NOT shut off if the clutch pedal is depressed...??

happy Saturday AM guys...who wants to take a stab at this one...new switch will arrive this AM to see if switch is issue...

I would like feedback on finger/contact adjustment setting of switch so I know if that is ok & if my reasoning of testing the switch is correct...

thx, Bob

I would say 'yes' to #2 - but I don't know if it is normally open or normally closed.
if it's the same type of micro switch that the idle position sw uses, they could fail after a while or get small crap in them to dirty the contacts.
