Swiss Air Box
Evidence of the length to which some people will go to get some added performance:
 DISCLAIMER: I did not do this myself! Got it from some dude a while back when I needed the other half of the airbox (connects to the airflow meter) as mine was cracked and patched when I bought the car. I guess i'll make this hideous thing into one of those cup style airbox lids that sell for the astronomical price of $175???

Hey I've been trying to buy one of those things to try out... but no one wants to sell just the snorkle side. Let us know what you think/find.
I was thinking of just cutting around the first 1" and using the latches and frame to hold in the air filter (not the actual swiss-cheese effect).
