Can anyone tell me about this tail?

I've seen a tail like this on a few 993's and 996's. It appeared to be independent of the engine lid. This seems like it would be a good solution for my Manly Big Tail needs, but I could tuck it away and not scare off the women.

This picture is from the MA-Shaw catalog. It's part of a kit, not listed separately. I sent an email, but no luck yet as to a rely.

I believe that tail will only work in conjunction with a coffee can tailpipe.

It's you!

I think its a bit much for the street, but if you are really interested I could go down and take a look for you if you like. MA Shaw is about 3 blocks from my work.

What I want is something to bolt on for track days and hang on the garage wall the rest of the time. If this works the way I think it doesn, it would be easier than swapping the whole entine engine lid ala' The Man^H^H^H^H^H^HJack Olsen

I think you would need a big honkin' splitter up front to balance it.

And a Folgers can on each exhaust tip.

Does it come with a bunch of stickers to put all over your car, like "Powered by Porsche"? :-)

Porsche Crest Big Spoiler

I think they actually mount to the engine lid, not the body, so that you have to use hood pins to hold the lid on, and then to remove the spoiler you take the entire cover off. Seen a couple 996 cup cars like that.

Somebody asked me why I don't run an IROC tail with a wicker vane on my 911E. I tell them, 155 HP. If you have big surplus horsepower then the downforce will do you good, but remember that induced drag increases with the square of airspeed.

Di = Cdi x S x ½ rV2

Di = Induced Drag

Cdi= Coefficient of Induced Drag

r = Air density

V = Velocity

Fun stuff for a Friday afternoon, I know.

That looks like a reproduction of the GT3 Cup rear spoiler. You don't want to know how much this costs direct from Porsche Motorsport.

It's quite possible that was I saw was an optical illusion. It appeared that the lid and uprights for the tail were separate.

Oh well, back to the drawing board...

Thom - I've seen the tail you speak of. It has attachment points that clamp onto the sides of the decklid, kind of like a roof rack. Sorry but I don't know where it came from. Saw it at a DE event some time back.

Thom- Don't you already have a tail that is like the 993 GT2 style? If that is the case then I thought it was possible to remove the wing element and attach risers that connect to a larger wing element similar to the one you pictured. That way you use the same base, but you can have a much larger wing that is higher up in the airstream.
