Batteries again

I have this monstrosity in my targa. Why are they this big? And heavy? What can I use to replace it? Mine does not have a hold down.is it suppose to? Bought the car last year and previous owner must have had a leaky battery. Had to replace front support pan and battery support pan over the winter. Now I see white acid spots forming on new paint. Are the gel batteries any good? Do they leak? What do they cost?

If you type in key words such as "battery" or "batteries" into the search box you will find dozens of previous threads which answer all your battery questions. Here is one (with several other thread links within it):

Please update me with battery ideas

Nineball read your thread where did you get the battery box and hold down? Is that battery still holding up?

The box came with the battery. The hold down you can get at any auto parts store.

2 years and 2 complete battery drains later and it is working great.

I used a Honda Civic battery with a mounting kit from Rennline, but I see that they don't have that kit anymore. Half the weight, starts every time, just like my Honda.
