Thanks for the coaching guys - have a rebuilt one from Ed on the way.

I too just replaced bushings in 86 911, but now the gear shift pops out of first gear on occasion (no, that never occurred in the past 10 yeaers). I used the adjustment method of placing stick in neutral and tying it to steering wheel, then rotating coupler toward passenger side. Car also feels like it's lacking performance/gut but suspect that transmission is not full engaged. Any advice on next steps?

Did you make sure to have the straight portion of the stick vertical when you made the adjustment to the coupler? I usually just eyeball it but have used a bubble level too. I think it's important. |
Oops. Thanks very much for suggesting that. I will redo it tomorrow per your suggestion and let you know. Thanks again!

IT WORKED! First try too. Used a level to make sure the lower part of the shifter was completely vertical, then repeated my original steps. Shifting is smooth and problems are gone. I really appreciate your advice. Thanks!
