Vin decode

Can any of you 911 guys tell what this car is from the pillar tag? Supposed to be a 68s. I don't have access to the vin plate or the car.

69 is 119xxxxxx

70 is 911xxxxxxx

from 1965 thru 1973, on the "long-hood" cars, the VIN plate was riveted up front near the front hood/trunk latch. A separate VIN plate was riveted to the front windshield A-pillar starting in 1969.


That looks like it's in the door jamb and NOT a VIN #. OR it's a 912....like you mentioned......

My '69 912 Vin is 129xxxxxx. '68 912 is 128xxxxx.

Yes, a 1968 912 coupe built by Porsche (as opposed to Karmann built); #10 of only 427. Karmann built almost 5600 912 coupes while Porsche concentrated on the 911 and the Targa model that year. The paint code 6803 is Ossi blue.
