My 1975 911 color code is ( 047-9-3) can anyone decode this ? or is there a web site which lists color codes.
My car is a light metalic blue, but a few scratches in the engine bay show a metallic pink color which concerns me !!! |

There isn't an '047' code listed in the service manual from '72 thru '81 colors, but there is an '042' which is Peru Red. Are you absolutely certain that plate says '047' ???
Try cleaning the plate to see if it isn't really '042' ...

Paint code...maybe 041 for black?
The Glassurit paint site does not recognize your number 047. The 9 and 3 are not important...they just stand for metallic and 2 stage paint. The closest #'s to yours is 042 (peru red) and 041 (black). Maybe the person that stamped the # was dysslexic, but I can't find any combination of #'s that comes up w/ a viable color. Your current color may not be the original color. Look very closely in the front trunk area to see if there is any evidence of another color, or under the door sill plates or in the engine compartment. Look to see if there is evidence of any primer or color overspray under the car or around the suspension components to see if there is any evidence the car has been repainted. Is the original information tag on the under side of your front hood still there? If not, that would be a hint the car has been repainted and if they repainted the under side of the front hood, it was probably a color change. That tag has alot of information on it including he options the car came with. They are in code, but there are books to decode the numbers.
If you are trying to match your color, the color code will not guarantee this. If you are going to completely repaint, it won't matter. A good paint shop that specializes in mixing paints will be able to get very close and the color of the car will be uniform. It is very difficult to try to match a metallic and try to do spot repairs. The size of the metallic is critical as is the technique of spraying it on. The Glassurit paint site is below...good luck. http://194.250.208.11/english/start.htm The manufacturer code for Porsche is "POR". You only need it and the paint code number to search for the color name. Your number does not come up. The number of my car was not listed at any car paint mixing store as a viable Porsche number, but when I plugged it into the Glassurit site under PORSCHE (POR) for manufacturer, it gave me my color that no one else had in their color books.
