Angry How to replace Front Stut Inserts?

I'm trying to get the insert out per the "Porsche 101 projects" book but having ral difficulties in "pushing the insert" down from the camber plate.

Trying not to have to remove the entire strut, so wonder if anyone has any brilliant ideas?

thanks,
Patrick.

you've undone the top nut?? strange

assuming you have, try a SOFT mallet on the top of the shaft that pokes through into the trunk. try and tap it through.

Just to be sure - the top nut is the one you see after opening the front trunk. Not sure if the soft mallet will work as I tried to push down on the new strut (outside of the car) and its real hard work to push it down a few inches...

Patrick,
There's a couple of things to check.

1) Jack up the car, both wheels off the ground. If both wheels aren't off the ground then the sway bars could be preventing the strut from dropping completely. Don't forget to use two jack stands.

2) I'm assuming you got the pieces marked #9,10 and 11 off of the strut.

The assembly should just drop down with its own weight.

The only other thing could be torsion bar loading but I don't think so.

Regards,
Rick

Rick hit the nail on the head. BOTH front wheels have to be off the ground or the sway bar will fight you. Time to get out the jackstands...

I had the exact same problem two months ago and the fine people on this list helped me out!

but, the top of the strut should not be pushing up that far when extended. i did have the whole front off the ground when i did mine so maybe that is the probleamo.

Thanks to all who suggested all the great ideas...
And Rick was absolutely right - I had both side jack-ed up but was lazy to remove the far side wheel when I was working on the left side first.
And that's the problem !
Mind you - it still takes a very strong push to get it through the fenders in the end
