Another starter wiring post
Need some advise.
Engine is going back in after a reseal (and yes, there has been a considerable lapse from the start of this project to now. Funny how that happens). Having read most of the other related posts in the forum, I'm still confused about where to connect the yellow wire. In my wiring harness there are only two wires that go to the starter. A big red and a smaller yellow. Seems obvious the two fat wires (red and black) connect together at the larger stud on the solenoid. Here's the question: There are two spade connectors on the solenoid. Which is the right one? (green circle or red circle) Some of the other posters talk about a third wire. Yellow with blue stripe. I don't have that one. Am I missing something or is that for another model? (It's a stock '77 911s). Mykle

Generally, youre right on the money. In an SC thats when the wire comes yellow with blue stripe which activates the cold start. On a 77 the single yellow activates the starter and the cold start injection.. The yellow goes on the upper connection and if it were for an SC the blue would go to the bottom connection which would have a tab.

Hi guys,
I just found this thread and have a question. I just checked my starter wires because I have some alternator/VR problems and I've found out that the blue/yellow wire isn't connected! My car is a 83 so it should be hooked up to activate the cold start mechanism, right? My car starts pretty good, sometimes I have to crank it 2 times but within 10 seconds or so it's usually running, no complaints. the first few seconds it sputters a bit, searches a good idle but like I said, after 10-15 seconds the car is running fine and responses good on throttle movement. Should I try to reconnect the wire and see if it improves or can I mess something up? The cable looks like it was broken because the rubber hose is still on the connector of the starter... I don't want to have a short circuit... |
