Does anyone have a 3.2 MFI motor that they use on the street? im considering converting my 3.2 to MFI and want to know what the driveability is like as this car will be used on the road.

Thanks Steve

I used to have it on my 3.5. You will spend so much on making everything right for that size motor, you should do EFI or carbs with crankfire instead.

I love MFI but unless you can afford to buy a set-up for a motor that the factory intended it for (SCRS, 3.0RSR $$$$) than go another route.

I should also add that when i went from a properly set-up big bore MFI system to Motec, i gained 60hp and tons of driveability.

I am building a short stroke 3.2 (70.4 x 98) MFI motor. It has twin plug heads that have been flowed, slidevalve, pump rebuilt by Gus a PFI, headers by Cox Motorsports, ARP hardware, inproved oiling, racing valvetrain and cams. It is a 8500 capable motor that will make good torque and HP. It is all possible, it is also not cheap. Whether it is the correct choice is more about your motivation and desire than, 'can it be done'. There are other ways to get more performance at a lower cost. There are also questions about driveability. There are trade offs between torque and high rev HP. As you answer these questions it will guide you to the correct motor for your project.

I had a 019 pump which Gus did not want to use as a starting point. He wanted to start with an early S pump and then used a 3.0 space cam or something similar. It may be that that cam is nla. You can also check with Henry at Supertec Performance, as he has also done some pumps for hot rod motors.

Super old post - wanted to piggyback and ask about specific drawbacks of a 3.2MFI? I am close to getting into a completely rebuilt 3.2MFI, 8K-8.5K motor, 300+HP.

Thoughts?

Old post for sure, but I think the biggest drawback would be getting the MFI pump modified and tuned to your cams; ports and compression. There is no off the shelf space cam that will work with your engine size and 8K to 8.5K RPM goal and be street able at the same time. So the space cam, early or late, will have to be modified to make things work and that will cost a few $$ in labor. Don't get me wrong, I love the MFI approach on a 3.2 engine especially if it's with a long hood car. I'm also in the process of building a 3.1 MFI engine ( 66 x 100 ) for my 72 coupe and will be knee deep into the MFI pump and space cam mods for this. I love the MFI challenge but Motec and a laptop is way more cost affective and tunable. I'm still going to stay with MFI.
